I'm hoping to hear from anyone who has used the Hanson's Marathon Method to train for your marathon. I am currently following their beginner plan, training for an October 20th marathon. I've been following their plan to the T, haven't missed any workouts and have been hitting all of the paces as outlined in their pacing charts.
For those of you who have used this method - what was your experience like with the weekly long tempo runs (marathon pace)? I am finding that at the beginning the pace feels easy but then by the last 1/3 of the effort, I'm just praying for the end. This has me really concerned that if I attempt that pace during the marathon, I'll just be setting myself up for failure. This is only my second marathon, and the first time I've really tried to follow a proper training program... so I don't have a ton of reference points to guage my progress. I'm seriously questioning whether I've set my goal pace too high, even though I've been able to complete all of the workouts at the target paces. Long runs are feeling easy. Strength workouts are hard, but doable. It's just these marathon-paced tempo runs that are throwing me off.
Has anyone else who has used this method found the tempo workouts to be really tough? What was your experience like on race day?
