What's the problem with that? It may be loud but it's not bad.
No wonder he finished last
NBC please STOP having him work on broadcasts he is not good
He said he ran in spikes because it was extremely hot and he thought the road would be soft. Frame it any way you want. Spin it to fit your agenda.
You'd think that a Princeton, Oxford, and Yale man who was also a world class athlete would be providing intelligent and insightful commentary, but the idiocy of Craig Masback's over the years has been staggering. His remark today about running the 5th mile in spikes -on asphalt, no less- was a new nadir.

Not quite. In the 90s he once used "triumvirate" and "hegemony" in the same sentence to describe Kenyan steeplechasers. Given that the average IQ of his target audience is less than 90, I would consider that to be the nadir.

Yep. Because he could not test it out before the race and find out it was a terrible idea.
Very credible.

That doesn’t disprove that he is one of the more intelligent runners.
Morans come to LRC for advise and to discus a plethora of idiotic topicks.
LOL yes he did and I agree it makes no sense.

It doesn't?
What would it take.
I wore spikes on asphalt tracks in high school for the 400 all the time and I think once on an 800.
I did run the Fifth Avenue mile a couple of times, though in flats.
It's not a big stretch that someone may try wearing spikes there.
People wear spikes in XC races that have a lot of asphalt portions.

On those asphalt stretches you run as awkwardly as women in high heels.

Or as awkwardly as men who identify as women running in high heels.
I'm gonna posit that Craig who said he finished DFL that year was grasping for straws and spikes was a misguided attempt to get an edge as an overmatched runner.
He said he knew it was insane when he went through in 55 and was dead last. Sydney Maree was amazing.
My high school track was concrete, in the years before I attended. Everyone wore spikes at track meets, that was what you did. The 3200 meter record there is STILL held by a guy who ran it in spikes in the 1960s.
The summer before I started my freshman year it was resurfaced with the early ground-tire method. It was a revelation, but track times were slower than the concrete years for YEARS after.
And today I learned that Craig Masback ran the first 5th Avenue Mile. I had no idea.
Pretty much impossible to identify the shoes.
