Deer LRC,
I've seen a bit of interest in the effect of Tinman training on these boards, and thought it may be of interest to start a thread in which I log my training on a Tinman schedule. It's not too far away from what I was doing when I was running my best, so it seems the natural choice.
Plan is to build up to:
Monday:
Tinman tempo: 40 minutes at 3k/5k pace plus 1 min per mile. Then 2 - 4 sprints or somewhere around 100m, full recovery. Total with 1 mile WU and CD = about 8.5 miles at current fitness
Tuesday:
1 hour easy, then strides and very easy jog back = 8.5 miles, roughly, at current fitness
Wednesday:
2 hour LR. Same pace as 1 hour runs, will allow myself to speed up if I feel good. 16 - 17 miles, approx, at current fitness
Thursday:
1 hour easy, then strides and very easy jog back = 8.5 miles, roughly, at current fitness
Friday:
CV pace workout - 6/7 1000m repeats at 10k pace, with 90 seconds rest (cutting down to 1 min, at which point I will raise the pace of the reps). Then 2 - 4 sprints or somewhere around 100m, full recovery. Total with 1 mile WU and CD = 6.5 miles.
Saturday:
1 hour easy, then strides and very easy jog back = 8.5 miles, roughly, at current fitness
Sunday:
1 hour easy, then strides and very easy jog back = 8.5 miles, roughly, at current fitness
Total: 65 miles a week at current fitness, will probably naturally get closer to 70mpw as fitness improves.
If I stay healthy, I would expect fitness to rise quickly, as I have been training at a very low level for the past 2 years, and had the 2 years prior to that entirely away from running. PBs are 2:22, 18:30, 1:25 from when I was 17 off a similar schedule, with harder workouts and less mileage.
Currently at the very end (hopefully) of an injury I've had for just under 2 months. Was unable to run for a month or so, then could do a week of 15 - 20 minute runs, and am finally back into doing some 5 and 6 milers. Going to be super careful, and build up slowly.
All the best!
HM Guy
