As I see it, he has no shot at being a medal threat at Tokyo in the 800, 1500 or 5000. The only logical step to take from here is to move to the steeplechase.

Why are you sorry? Sorry doesn’t cut it, but WHY are you sorry?

I once said the same thing about Houlihan her first year or 2 as a Pro... Whether she wins an Olympic medal or not, I think she stayed on the right path despite my meaningless opinion :)

What makes you think he'd be good at the steeple? He's run 1:44.68 this year, which is enough speed to make it work in the 1500. Meanwhile, he hasn't shown any incredible prowess at 5,000 or 3,00 that we know about. If he improves as much next year as he did this year, he'll be a dark horse candidate in the Olympics to steal a medal.
He's making fun of rojo's bad take on Simpson, you idiots.

There is a good chance Doha will be significantly slower than 3:30 unless Timothy get's other kenyans to sacrifice themselves as pacer.. That could happen of course, but hardly a certainty.
In a 3:34+ race Engels could medal if he gets the tactics right because of his 800m speed.
I think at this point even Coebra stands a chance at making the Olympic team.

It looks like you are on to something here. The only American 1500 guys who have run faster than that recently are Wheating, Manzano and Centro, who weren't that much faster. He's pretty much tied with the next guy back, Andrews. And then it's a ways back to the next guys, Torrence (+.4 sec) and Brown (+1.1 sec). So yeah, I'd say that puts him in pretty good company.
Of course, none of this means anything until he actually runs some fast races.
Worked well for bayer
