Hi
I am training for a marathon in late October.
Nearly all my training is focused on a weekly long run.
I have managed to get up to 22 miles a month ago which took just over 4 hours but it was very hot and more hilly than the actual race.
My last run was 17 miles at 11 min per mile pace but again was very hilly (its all hills round here!) I also ran mostly easy and felt I could have ran faster.
I know this is unconventional and not the best plan but it fits in with my work and also I find I get much less injury issues as I recover almost fully between runs.
I run regular half marathons and usually get around 1.45 times on hilly routes, interestingly the marathon is mostly flat.
Estimating around 4-4.30 time.
I do some very short runs (easy) in the week but not usually more than a few miles and do 3 cross train sessions a week at the gym including weights hitt and Pilates.
The main reason for this approach is injury I find that following a conventional training plan with running 4 or 5 times a week always results in injury.
Thanks for reading an interested in any feedback.
Will keep updated if there is interest.
Cheers
Tim
