Centro closed in 50.6 in Rio. There is no way in hell he is only capable of 49.
The first 2 laps in RIO were at his 8k pace. That doesn't cause any fatigue for him.
For a distance runner, flying start is a huge difference. The FAT times of many distance runners are bad/unimpressive because the acceleration phase out of the blocks takes too much power/energy. Either they accelerate slow, and lose a lot of time in the first 50m, or they accelerate fast and die on the home straight. Willis wrote a great post about this, when asked why he believes he can't break 50 in a FAT 400m despite his 48-mid relay split.
The top speed of distance runners isn't that bad, but the acceleration/start requires much stronger legs and power that distance runners with low BMI don't have. Just look at the arms and bodies of most 400m sprinters, they are closer to 100/200m guys than to 800m guys (and I'm not even talking about Kiprop).
