I still think he should sue for damages. Per USADA/WADA rules, he had no reason to be sanctioned and now his reputation has been damaged.
In order for him to sue for damages, he would have to prove he suffered some sort of recoverable losses. He didn’t lose any sponsors or income. People may second guess him but they can always argue that he did miss three tests so they didn’t lie. Libel and slander are tough to prove if he hasn’t lost anything of value (recoverable).
Not to mention, he’s a public figure and there is more leeway for the press to cover his life than a private citizen.
What about the Diamond League final he missed out on?
Has he had any expenses with lawyers from this?
It's true USADA didn't lie, but they sanctioned him when they shouldn't have due to not understanding their own rules.
Here's the thing most people don't get in a situation like this. If you don't follow USADA/WADA's rules you can lose your ability to work for 2+ years. Now before that voice in your head says "yeah but Coleman DIDN'T follow their rules!" Yes, he actually has because they did not execute well due to the fact they were late to collect his sample. My point here is that if athletes don't follow the rules they can get in a lot of trouble. However, if USADA doesn't follow their own rules they get in no trouble at all? That's pathetic. Someone ought to be out of work for at least 2+ years for messing this one up. They literally don't even know their own rules. It's a disgrace. I'm sure they are embarrassed.
More than anything this is USADA looking like complete amateurs.
