I used this a long time ago, after running for a year:
https://books.google.com/books/about/The_New_Competitive_Runner_s_Handbook.html?id=6FZnQgAACAAJ
I'm not sure the book is in print any more...you may find it for sale as a used book
It's free for me?? I think you have to click a button saying 'show rest' or something but it should be free.
It's official lads. The likely all in one Bible for modern running training is Daniels' Running Formula. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Yea I really like the way he simplified things. And breaking 15:00 at that age is amazing.
I'm curious to see what Daniels 5k plan looks like. He seems like the OG, I just watched a bunch of his lectures and am excited to see his book and plans.
Im looking for the classics. A book explaining stuff with examples of plans. I guess if we were to bury a book for the future to learn from what would we choose?

Hey, since I see a few posts on this thread referencing my old "Solving the 5K Puzzle" article from Running Times (now archived on the Runner's World site with all my old Running Times articles/columns), thought I'd mention that I have a new book just being released from VeloPress called FAST 5K that (surprise surprise) outlines 25 keys to improving 5K performance and includes 4 training schedules (based on fitness level and the amount of time you have for training). The book is available on Amazon now, probably won't be in brick and mortar bookstores for another week (as late as September 10, the official publication date). Here's the Amazon link:
