Excellent analysis! From what I can glean of Courtney through her interviews, she seems to be constitutionally immune to outside pressure and stress. I think that UTMB is just another fun adventure for her, and as a result she dominates.

Show some respect. Zach did win the TNF50 in San Fran twice (not an easy feat! $10,000 prize doesn't come easy. Most years it is a deeper top 10 than Western States.

Zach Miller is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OVERRATED. Sure, he's had a few good races but nothing against the top runners in the world. Until he wins WS 100 or UTMB then we can all stop with the attention. I find it interesting that runners like Zach Miller and Anton Krupicka have a few good races and they become instant legends. Why? It has to do more so with their lifestyle than with their athletic abilities. Americans, rich Americans; the typical geared out vegan/vegetarian, granola, tv eschewing types are always attracted to bafoons like Krupicka and Miller. We Americans are so bored with our cushy a ss lives. Matt Carpenter, Mike Morton and even Dave Mackey are way better than those dudes.
THIS!

"Those who want respect, give respect." But, what do you Boulderites could possibly know about respect...?

"Runners" or ex-runners, all those Millers, Krupickas, Canadays, etc., they all belong to the same tribe of self overpromoted, vain, underachieving, social media/SJ warriors, well fed, bored, and not having any real job celebrities. If there is any "ultra" involved it is their ultra narcissism they all possess in spades.
Of course it does wrote:
It would have to since a total of 0 American men have won UTMB.
Wow, and 6 women.

You know who always won TNF50? Matt Carpenter. Dude, shut up with the respect thing. Just shut up!
You know who also won TNF50? Matt Carpenter.
Sage, I know you have never run as fast as Matt Carpenter, Mike Morton or Dave Mackey in a 100 mile race. You know what? They aren't even vegan! Matt Carpenter is in his 50's, and I'm sure he would still beat you at the Pikes Peak Marathon.
Putting "yourself out there" (whatever that means) through social media does NOT make you a better let alone a faster runner. And no one cares that you are "being honest" or transparent about your "running." What makes you a faster runner is by running more. Self-promotion does NOT make you a better runner. Real athletes in other sports, first become world class at what they do then companies promote them because they are GOOD at what they do.
Man, STFU. Nobody cares about your dumb@ss grudge against Sage Canaday. If you want to talk about it, please make just ONE post, then delete it and turn off your computer.

Nice try Sage.

Oh I know she moved out of MN. Point is she didn’t grow up around mountains and her running career was all pretty flat stuff prior to bursting into the trail scene a few years ago. Point is if she can do it why are the US men even incapable of beating her?
True, but she had a nordic skiing background. It seems to me that a lot of ultra runners with a nordic skiing background have this incredible aerobic base and ability to move uphill easily, not to mention feel comfortable using poles.
Sage is so awesome wrote:
Sage, I'm so love with you and that's why I keep posting so compulsively about you. You know that don't you? I'm not even vegan but I'm still in love with you! I would definitely become vegan if you would only talk with me!
Even though I keep posting nonsense about Sage, I totally agree with you. I'm in love with him too!
Just seems like a cop out or something to say the US men just don’t train right for a ‘true’ mountain race. I almost wonder if it has more to do with over training rather than being unprepared. Or perhaps women deal better with the stress of traveling overseas? Whatever the explanation it just seems like it’s gotta be more than just not the right kind of training for the terrain. Jason Schlarb for example seems to have been lots of time in Europe and running European races past few years. Hawks has done some other races there as well.
Xavier Thévenard has serious quadriceps muscles.
I'm curious how he developed them in that manner - simply lots of mountains?

Did someone say serious quad muscles?
