CCC is going on now. Anyone have a leaderboard? UTMB starts in a little over an hour.

Utmb.livetrail.net is where the leaderboards are!

Let me ask you reed, you ever run 100 miles in the mountains in zero drop? If you haven’t just STFU.
Are you aware of anyone running ultra trail races with the Vaporfly or Next? Obviously they have minimal stability and zero tread, but it seems like that super squishy cushioning could be money in the back half of the race. Some of the Hokas that I see people wearing don't look especially stable either.

Camille may have run her 100 world record in the Flys, but that was entirely smooth crushed dirt trail/paved bike path surface, and this is UTMB. Big difference.
Can we talk about the female field for a sec? Anyone knows if Courtney is over her WSER injury? And there is also Kaci Lickteig. Who is your favourite on the womens side? I don't really know the European ones...
Interesting mix of athletes leading the CCC -
Luis Alberto Hernando (ESP), currently leading, is a former track athlete with around 14-min best times for 5000m and then went into a successful Biathlon career.
Second-place runner Thibaut Garrivier (FRA) basically rides over 200 miles per week as a cyclist and does minimal running.
Third placer Jiri Cipa (CZE) is a 2:20 marathoner and road/trail specialist.

Leaderboards of all events and a Livestream are right here.
Not sure about Courtney, hopefully shes in top shape. I wonder how much Rory has been training since she still has the CR there will be interesting to see how she does since I dont think shes really raced much the past few years.
What's your source on Luis Alberto Hernandez being from track background? He is also part of the mountain rescue team
back home
Looks like Alex and Xavier are currently running together in 24/25. Good strategy for Alex to hang with Xavier, hopefully he can keep up as the day/night goes on!

Here's some history on Luis Alberto Hernando:
http://corredores-de-montana.blogspot.com/2010/06/luis-alberto-hernando-alzaga.htmlUpdate through 30ish miles:
Pau is running like he took crystal meth before the start.
Xavier made a early move, which is rare for him.
X and Zach are now running together, and may be moving too quick worrying about Pau. X doesn't make many mistakes here though since he races in these mountains like every-other-weekend, so perhaps not.
Tollefson and Hawks are kinda running together. Tollefson is a shark waiting to devour his prey. He looks fresh.
Who knows about Hawks.
good update above, but I'll add that the lead woman Miao Lao is only 10-20 minutes behind all those men at this point, after about 5 hours. Courtney is chasing about 20 minutes behind. Kaci has gone out pretty hard. She's from Nebraska and really doesn't have any terrain similar to UTMB anywhere close to home. Hope she holds up over the next 70 miles.
Courtney must be healthy if she's going out in 2nd place.
and regarding Alex Nichols, he's finished a couple 100s (WS100 2017, 2nd, and Run Rabbit Run 2016, 1st) so he may not get too much attention as he's not a front-runner like Zach Miller...but I'd take Nichols over Miller at 100 miles any day of the week.
another american to watch is Andrew Miller. he's in 14th or so right now and has a good head on his shoulders. not been around too much recently due to injury so it would be a surprise if he holds it together but he has the potential.
all the top runners are on a big climb right now from ~1500m to ~2500m in 13km. it's still to early to say that this climb is important, but it could leave some runners behind who are showing signs of a bad day.

Super squishy would be super tiring for the feet and legs, besides being unstable and prone to cause injuries.
6 Americans in the Top 13 at UTMB six hours into the race... going to be interesting.

unstable and prone to cause injuries? source please?
word is that Tollefson is having issues and that Zach Miller is about to blow up. Andrew Miller is holding steady though, as is Alex Nichols.
for the women,
Courtney is still in 2nd, 18min back. Kaci in 4th. Katie Schide is falling back
