BS...you don't know me. I played college football (in the old division 1AA back in the 80s) and later competed in body building & powerlifting before transitioning to running & triathlons in my mid-30s. You're probably the skinny flyweight runner that has never been in a fight. Lol.
Kicker, eh?
Some fair points here. Under certain circumstances I would agree with you, but all indications pointed to Andrew Luck returning to play within a few weeks and not being out for the year. If the Colts had determined that Luck would likely miss the season, I would have no problem with him retiring. If he had a chance to play this season, I would expect him to do everything within his power to play until the Colts were eliminated from playoff contention. Again, we're talking about a calf injury and we're talking about a 6 month season. I don't think it's too much to ask of a guy who was being paid $15.5 million this season. If at some point during the season it was determined that he could not be ready to play, or that the Colts were eliminated from the playoffs, I would no longer have an issue with his retirement.
Salary cap space is great, but there is nothing to spend it on now. I'd much rather gamble on my all-pro franchise qb back into the lineup than trying to make up for it with whoever is out there in free agency right now.
You can think I'm wrong for saying that in the shoes of a Colt's fan I would boo him (again, I'm not a Colts fan, so this helps my team), but I wouldn't have felt the same way if he retired before the draft. I think there's a certain point in the season where people are relying on you and if you're the quarterback and you don't give them enough notice, then you've earned your boos.
To me, this situation is equivalent to the situation where an expected scorer on your cross country team quits because they sprained their ankle in a pre-season time trial. Does that person have the right to do so? Yes. Do the people involved have the right to voice their displeasure? Also yes. This is also a totally different situation though than if a scorer on your team shuts it down due to a stress fracture, where it would be impossible to return and make a meaningful contribution.

Nope, that's simplistic to the point of delusion.
Good for Andrew Luck. He got to make a decision to retire. Most NFL players are shown the door and their contracts are dropped. The life of a retired NFL player can be pretty rough.
For the people commenting on how Big Ben and Cam keep playing through injuries we might need a few years after their careers are over to see who made the right decision.
Another poster mentioned Aikman having a lot of concussions and being as sharp a tack doing games. That is not true. Troy has complained about some suffering he has been going through. Hopefully he lives out a great life but it is way too soon to say he is out of the woods.

I don't think anyone knows the entire injury story since it kept changing particularly over the past couple of weeks.

Stop posting in this thread or come back with a different handle because the above analogy is one that only a clueless twit would come up with.
The boos are fine. It comes with the territory. So does the big bucks. These players need to stop whining.
For the record, I’m fine with Luck retiring. He probably made the right decision. Doesn’t mean the fans can’t be unhappy about it.

Yes, people are allowed to be as$holes, and we are allowed to shame them for being as$holes. Colts fans are trash.
