Plus he can make a comfortable living after football doing commercials for Geico.
What would be even more comedic is if he took the season off and joined a team in the XFL (his father Oliver Luck Is commissioner of the XFL) in an attempt to break the monopoly currently held by the NFL.

Colts fans (and perhaps some players) are pissed because of the timing of this decision. If he announced it at the end of last season, they'd be more accepting. They could have drafted a QB that way and now the mediocre at best backup QB Brissett will be thrown into the fire on short notice, with the whole team scrambling to become cohesive with the altered personnel.
Maybe he didn’t announce it at the end of last season is because he just made the decision very recently. How dumb are you? Do you routinely make announcements six months before you make final decisions?
I am pretty confident that Luck planned on playing this year in January when the season ended. But then that calf injury showed up and 5 months later it wasn't healed. It is sort of a bizarre injury that didn't sound too bad in the reports but it never seem to got better. After that shoulder stuff, I find it easy to image he got super frustrated.
I also sort of expect to see him make a comeback next year:)
If I was a Colts' fan I would boo Andrew Luck for this reason. I don't have a problem with his retirement, but I think it's fair for an organization and a fan base to expect that the quarterback is not going to leave the team high and dry 2 weeks before the season starts. There were a lot of people counting on him and I think it's okay to feel like he let them down. If at the end of the season he wants to retire, that's totally different. But at this point, I would have an expectation that he would do everything that he could to get back on the field and help the team. If the injury didn't get better and he didn't play all season, then that's the way it is and everyone could deal with it. I don't care that football is not fun for him anymore. It's 6 months. Most people have spent 6 months doing things that weren't particularly fun. I know he has a right to do what he wants and he doesn't care what I think and I wouldn't be out burning his jersey, but I would boo him every chance I got.
He will be the second best Stanford QB behind John Elway and the third best Colts QB behind Peyton and Johnny U.
Well no more who is better Andrew Luck or Russell Wilson. Now Wilson the fifth best NFL QB with no debate
Can argue....Brady, Brees, Rodgers
Let Mahomes take 4th
Then,.....Wilson.

Have you heard of Bert Jones? He was a better Colt than Andrew Luck. You cannot go by stats. Defensive linemen, linebackers and blitzing defensive backs were allowed to seriously hurt quarterbacks in 1970's. Men like Joe Greene, Alan Page and Carl Eller were tremendous athletes in that era. Alan Page in 1983 raced a 5K road race in which he went out the first mile, app. 5:15 (slightly net downhill). I know because I went out the first mile in that 5K road race app. 5:25.
Luck is just another lazy millennial with a crappy work ethic. Ya, just go ahead & quit at the first sign of discomfort. Watch, a bunch of other lazy millennial NFL players now will follow his lead.
Sarcasm ^
You are trash.
Hey moran, what's the difference between riding the bench the entire season with an injury and retiring now? Because if it didn't heal well enough in five months standing around with a clipboard for six more probably won't help. Oh yeah, by retiring he clears cap space for the team to go grab a quality backup from the waivers pool. So the Colts are actually in a better position with him retired and not playing over in-house and not playing. Worrying about what should have been done in hindsight months ago when team staff was actively working with him to rehab the injury is pathetically dumb.
Good for him. Made a lot of money and is getting out relatively unscathed while the NFL is tanking.
I assume he has investments and businesses he’s involved in. He can now focus on those things instead of getting his body bashed. So he’s basically just making a job change which we all do all the time.
Anyways he probably wanted to play this year and came into training camp expecting to play. However once the intensity of camp hit him he realized that his body is just not holding up.
Kudos to him for helping the franchise and not going on IR and taking millions for nothing.
The 2012 QB draft had mixed results.
Luck was picked number one overall and looked promising.
Now he's done (maybe)
RGIII was #2 overall by the Redskins and won rookie of the year. And that was it. Now he's a backup in Baltimore
Ryan Tannehill 1st rnd/8th pick Dolphins
Brandon Weedon 1/22 - Browns
Russell Wilson 3rd rnd/75 overall - Seahawks. - He's pretty good
Nick Foles 3/88 - Eagles - Did well with Eagles, traded to Rams, played a year KC, came back to the Eagles to win a Super Bowl MVP. Now with Jaguars
Kirk Couisins 4/102 - Redskins second QB pick that year. Now with Vikings. Consistently starts 16 games and ha good stats
Ryan Lindley - 6/185 Cardinals

Don't know if this is a joke or not but I've been seeing a fair amount of boomers giving this critique of his decision regardless. It, however, fails to look at any of the negative side effects of capital. Football is a dangerous sport. Luck has had concussions & a whole range of other injuries. The team/owners/coaches/fans just want to see him on the field as soon as possible and would jeopardize his long term health to win a game and make some money. We should respect Luck's decision. He probably doesn't want to end up with CTE. He has plenty of money and a Stanford degree. I wouldn't knock any player who wanted to get out of that league and put their health first.
C'mon man...Luck's injuries aren't that bad. The kidney laceration was successfully treated and he was cleared to play. The torn labrum in his shoulder on his throwing arm was successfully repaired and his impressive stats last year bear this out. There's always a concern when a QB has major shoulder surgery to their throwing arm as to whether or not they can return to pre-injury level (much like a pitcher having Tommy John surgery). But as I said his stats last year were impressive with throwing velocity & accuracy all looking pretty good. Luck threw for 4,593 yards (2nd highest in his career), 39 TDs (2nd highest), only 15 picks and had his highest QB rating ever (98.7). And a 10-6 record and division title to boot! The guy looked good last year and is the key to Indy's success. He's a winner and leader...that's going to be hard to replace.
There has been other QBs with more and worst injuries that are still playing. For example, check out Cam Newton's injury history. And Big Ben's injury history is one of worst I've ever seen. How he keeps on playing going into his 16th season is beyond belief. He is truly an Ironman!
https://sportsinjurypredictor.com/player/cam-newton/4690https://sportsinjurypredictor.com/player/ben-roethlisberger/2639Why should Ben and Cam having a longer list of injuries impact Luck's decision whether or not to continue playing hurt?
Titans drafted Jake Locker and he was injury prone and pretty much a bust. He did not get an offer for a second contract with the Titans, he could have floated around the NFL as a back up and made more money, but he chose to retire.
He lives in Washington, coaches HS football, hunts and fishes, takes care of his family. He has loads of money in the bank. I think he made a decision more athletes should make.
Imagine starting off at age 28 with over $10M in the bank. Pretty great way to start out on adulthood.

Well for one he's complaining about the cycle of injuries he has (injury, pain & rehab and all that) But so what he's Indy's franchise QB who is paid extremely well.
Franchise QBs who are successful are hard to find these days. Go back and look at all the 1st draft pick QBs from the last 10 years who have stunk it up with many not even in the league anymore! He was the 1st OA player taken in the 2012 draft and led Indy to three straight 11-5 seasons with 2 divisional titles and a AFC Championship appearance...impressive.
Remember who was taken with the 2nd pick behind Luck? Try RG3. And that guy is so beat up but still hanging in there as a backup with the Redskins. He's not whining and wanting to quit.
Luck became the highest paid QB in the league when they gave him his new 6 yr contract in 2016 worth 140 million with 87 mil guaranteed! He kept Indy successful and in playoff contention almost every year. This year many experts had Indy picked as a SB contender along with KC & New England. So, now Indy loses two franchise QBs in the last 10 yrs - one the organization let go because they thought Manning was done and the other quit because of a few injuries.
The personal decisions that others make in regards to their health and careers should not and do not have any impact on how Andrew decides what is best for his life and his family.
You seem to be of the opinion that Luck is obligated to keep getting hurt because the Colts offered him a big contract. That, to me, is absurd. To you, looking after your own well-being is "whining".
