Maree has a 1:48 PB, and he tried.

Many thanks. I’ll update those 2 tomorrow! ?

Since we’re making outlandish comparisons, what 800m ability guarantees sub-3:29 performance by your calculation?
You didn't ask me, but I don't think that any 800m time would guarantee a sub 3:29 ability.
What is the fastest guaranteed 1500m performance that a 1:43 800m runner could throw down?
(For the record Wigins is fulla sht but let’s play his stupid game a for a little bit, shall we?)

Doesn't work that way. A 3:28 pretty much guarantees a sub 1:44, not the other way around.

... why? How can you be so sure “it” works at all if you can’t throw out a number?

Actually a 1:30 800m runner is guaranteed to be able to run a 3:29 1500m. Take it to the bank.

Yep. A 3:28 guy is running basically running back to back 1:51 800ms. You aren't going to find guys running 800ms a mere 6s faster than 1500m pace. The endurance monsters will be at 7s and the rest at 8s. The marathon guy who might be able to run 6s off 800m pace isn't going to be running close to 3:28:) Mo Farah was a 3:29 guy with a 1:48 pr. But he was also a 3:38 runner at the time when he was running that time. Do you want to bet the training that took 9s off his 1500m time lowered his 800m time by a few seconds?
The outliers the other way (they guys that can run 1:44 but not break 3:40) have a much, much larger range.

"Not really."
Well, "Not really."

Not so sure about that one

I did throw out a number you dumb*ss. The number is 1:43 for a 3:28 man.
Let me try explaining this to you again. If you run 3:28, it is highly likely you are capable of 1:43. If you run 1:43, that does not mean you are likely capable of 3:28. Get it now? Go look at the all-time lists for 800m and 1500m if you're still lost.

Well your uncertainty is due to ignorance. Somebody who can do 2 laps at 45 seconds per 400m can for sure do 3.75 laps at 55.7 per 400m.
It's great how obvious things turn contentious just because it's me that says them!
I never said 3:29 -> 1:43, but 3:28 pretty much has proven to in the real world. Plenty have done it, the rest didn't try hard.
I never said any 800 time -> 3:28. In fact most of the very best - Rudisha, Kipketer, Amos, Cruz, would have failed if they tried.
I think the times nuts!!! Only way I see Cheruiyot losing worlds (in 1500) is if he runs a stupid race...
How does the schedule look if he wants to double?

The 400/800m type have an inefficient arm carry for 1500m. Too used to swinging their arms like a sprinter.

This seemed to upset a lot of people because it wasn't the original intent of: if 3:28 then 1:43.
I rather like the question: If 1:43 then what minimum 1500m time? I'm going with 3:52.4 for someone like Juantorena.

Totally agree. Although I’d say a 3:28 runner could run 1:44. It’s not a guarantee of 1:43 imo.

EPO is a helluva drug.
While there's been guys capable of this who were clean, Cheruiyot isn't one of them. Only the most sissified brainwashed slaves to all that is PC believe otherwise. The folks behind allowing so many E. Africans will pay a lot of $$$ to keep this fraudster ahead oj Jakob and others.
