Now being in the work world, and coming from being in the competitive running world for the past ~8 years (HS and NCAA), I am shocked at how unhealthy some of my coworkers are when it comes to nutrition. Not sure if this is commonplace and I'm not used to it, or what.
Where I work, people drink Diet Coke more than I drink water (and I drink 40-60 oz. a day) and I cannot fathom what doing that, daily, over the course of several years, is doing to their bodies. Seriously, some people go through 6+ cans a day.
People also eat fast food (McDonalds, Taco Bell, etc.) on a daily basis, also with a large soda. Which again, I have no idea what that's doing to their health.
I'm not sure how much they exercise (I don't think very much, but I could be wrong)
I honestly don't understand how people function with these habits. If I eat McDonalds once on a road trip, I feel horrible for a day. If I did that for a week, I'm not sure if I could really function. Similar thing with soda, and with exercise.
Curious if anyone else has similar thoughts. They are all great people who I really do enjoy working with, I just was surprised at their habits. Is this the case everywhere, or am I in a unique office?
I'm also curious what people with a nutrition background have to say about this. Is this common?
And another side-note, are people conditioned to function like anyone else with these unhealthy habits over time, or does everyone else feel as horrible as I feel when they eat fast food too, no matter how well you take care of yourself?
