Helen Schlactenhaufen ran the Cork City 3000m today and came 4th. My question, is she was racing in Memphis and looking great on the weekend, flies to Ireland, races a 3000m, now needs to hope across to Birmingham and race a Diamond League mile on Sunday. Her legs will be shattered by the time she steps onto the line in Birmingham.
Logically I imagine she was on the waitlist for Birmingham but wasn't sure she'd get in, so she booked in for Cork to make sure her flights to Europe wouldn't be for nothing. I know you don't want to burn bridges with meet directors, but surely once you're into a Diamond League you cancel the 3000m you have 3 days prior, especially when you're in PR shape and there's good times/bonus rankings points on offer which could be crucial in a stacked 1500m field with Tokyo qualification on the line.
Any other logic I'm missing on this?
