Any guesses what's going to happen in Hong Kong? Seems like sh.t is about to hit the fan over there. I'm admittedly not well-versed on what's going on or with China's history so I don't have any clue, but it's looking like it's about to go from bad to worse.

I'm no expert either but my wife is originally from HK and I've visited numerous times. Seems like that extradition bill was a tipping point of China gradually pushing their laws/taking away freedoms that HK once had. Along with that the influx of mainlanders raising real estate to an almost unaffordable level and putting a strain on public services has pushed Hkers into wanting change and ideally their own democracy
Of course, China will never let that happen and I don't see a happy ending for HK residents
I am very confused as China has iced the extradition bill. I am not even sure what they're protesting at this point. From interviews, it seems to be that they're protesting their treatment while protesting.
I am not sure what they are thinking will happen. Do they think if they keep protesting that China will just agree to give these folks Hong Kong, no strings attached?
I am very pro-Democracy and would like to see China change their ways, but I just don't see the point in these protests at this point. They are really asking for trouble and I worry about the safety of these protesters.

The extradition bill was just one piece of it. Even if that is on hold, it was gradual reduction in freedoms and other economic changes since China took back HK in 1997 that people are frustrated with.....and yes, recently it is the police treatment of protesters

At one point, protestors said the whole raid on the legislative building was a huge police setup. Now protestors are accusing police of inserting bad actors into the airport to try to incite violence and with China's state run media there's just too much misinformation right now to make heads or tails of it.
With the extradition bill off the table, the whole thing is basically just Occupy Wall Street. People know something is wrong but they're too disorganized and not coherent enough create meaningful demands.
Only a matter of time before the nations leaders get tired of this sh*t and shuts down protests with violence.
If you're a native in HK and don't have a visa and ticket to escape to Vancouver by now, bend over and kiss your arse goodbye.
HK protesters also wanted the China appointed CEO, Carrie Lam, to step down. If she does, she and China lose their face (reputation) and the protesters win. In effect, snowballing to Taiwan and other provinces that China wants to control to start their own protests for reform and freedom.

China has been gradually chipping away at HK freedom's, coming to a boiling point over a bill in April that would allow China to extradite HK citizen's to China. That bill has since been iced but protests continue.

Unfortunately, I do think if these protests continue, China will use more than necessary force to stop it

Yes, protesters think Beijing will continue to tighten the screws until all of their freedoms are gone. And they are right. This is the end of a free Hong Kong. It's just a matter of time now and whether or not it ends in bloodshed.
It's a shame, really. Hong Kong is a unique and amazing city. Singapore will never be the free-wheeling, anything goes city that Hong Kong was in its heyday. But where is the US support? The protesters are waving US flags but no one has spoken out.
The problem is the protesters are mostly kids without real leadership or a strategy.
The greedy American capitalists and government selling out the American heartland and scientific/industrial might will go down in the history books as one of the biggest blunders in history.
We fell right into their trap and now millions or more are gonna die in about 10 years.
