Nobody could run away from Salazar during his prime road years, which I put at 1981 and 82.
I'm not sure we've seen the peak of Rupp's road career, but maybe we have.
Let's say pre-surgery Rupp was time-machined to NYC 1982.
Or 1982 Salazar was time-machined to Chicago in 2017.
Who you got, and why?
1982 Salazar time machined to Chicago 2017: Salazar was as tough as nails for his time. I think if he would've been time machined to our modern days, he would be a beast (shoes technology, training technology, nutrition, EPO micro-dosing (sorry can't take that out of the equation)and a "Al Sal coach" . Still, in terms of running fluidity and bio mechanics, Rupp will probably have the edge. Rupp 1st, Salazar 2nd some 23 seconds behind Rupp, Kirui 3rd.
2017 Rupp time-machined to 1982: For some reason, Rupp's running style would resemble Rodolfo Gomez thus looks like Rupp not doing anything lower than the high 2:09:55 -2:11's he exhibited in 2016- pre-Chicago 2017. Salazar would smoke him.
That's just me. Rupp fanboys, you are welcome to be offended.
