So I was on the forum this morning and saw an add on the side for a local 12 mile road race here in Baltimore. I thought, "I wonder where that race goes in town and how much it costs?" So I click on the ad.
Here is what I got.
I almost fell out of my chair when I saw $115. Plus there is $7.90 sign up fee. My god that extra $7.90 would infuriate me.
Now it's a 12 mile race through the city but is that standard? I know there have been a lot of threads on this but I haven't paid that much attention to them and I've kind of defended the $200+ fees for something like the NYC marathon but for some reason this seems really high. I guess though you are shutting down a ton of streets and probably don't have that many entrants.
I then tried to find what other races costs around here and see a 20 miler for $60 (admittedly that's no on a street) and $35-50 for a local 11k that does run down the streets.
Is it just way more expensive to shut down 12 miles of streets versus 11k (6.8 miles)?
Wouldn't the smart move be to sign up for the relay and just not hand off?
