Rory Linkletter is a mormon and hasn’t missed a Sunday run in over a month based on his Strava. Bryce Harper never sits out an MLB game on Sunday. Steve Young played every Sunday in the NFL. Not sure why a mormon who is a good runner would feel the need to skip their Sunday run. It’s such a dumb religion. Joseph Smith was such a diabolical fraud.
As a lifelong Mormon and a lifelong runner I've never felt that I had to hide or apologize for my occasional Sunday runs. To me a good run can have a spiritual value consistent with activities recommended for the sabbath. I once ran a half-marathon before Sunday meetings and wore my finisher medal on its ribbon around my neck all through meetings including when singing with the choir. The only comments were congratulations on finishing. I know at least one local leader working on a multi-year streak of running every day including Sundays who feels his Sunday runs are appropriate for the day. I also live outside the mountain west and voted for both Obama and Hillary. Mormons are not confined to any particular stereotype.

Oh no I don't believe in God. I just go through the motions because I'm so embedded in the culture. Wife, kids, friends, family...everyone around me believes. It's not worth risking all those relationships so I'll just play along.
Did it ever occur to you that they quite possibly don't believe in god either but are keeping up appearances just to avoid the risk of offending you? Hopefully one day you'll see the rewards of being yourself as being more important than the risks which fuel your hypocrisy.
Mormonism = Antisemitic.
I reported one of the early posts and then realized that, if I used the same standard, I would report about a one third of the posts inlcuded this message string. I really am sorry that so many of your are so misinformed regarding The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Regarding the subject of this post; devout members of our church normally don't exercise on Sunday but some do. These personal decisions are not dictated by the leadership of our church.
Regarding the other misinformed, and sometimes vial and false, comments. Take a moment to really get to know someone for from our church. You will likely be pleasantly surprised if you give them an honest shot of getting to know you .
Not a Mormon. But, I've always taken a day off a week from running (not always, but often, on Sunday). I suspect, but I don't know, there are physiological benefits to doing so. In any case, I am much more refreshed--minimally, at a psychological level--for runs on other days.
It hasn't escaped my notice that, on a per capita basis, Utah pretty much runs ahead of the entire nation in terms of high school distance running performance.

You don't know Mormons very well do you? The LDS Church is hugely pro-Israel. It is ingrained in their policies and even their doctrine. They have set up education centers and other similar institutions in Israel. Of all the denominations in the USA, the LDS Church is without a doubt the most pro-Israel religious body than any other except maybe Jewish congregations and even then it's a pretty close race.

Most of my closest family(blood and inlaws) are extremely devoted. Church is talked about in almost every conversation. Many are in high leadership positions. It's clear in every conversation with them that they view the world almost exclusively through the lens of mormon dogma.
You clearly don't understand how deep the religious roots go in the LDS community.
A few in the family have openly turned their backs on the church and it has been devastating to everyone involved. It's a point of shame and embarrassment. My parents, wife and in laws would be completely devastated if I was "myself" whatever that means. It would mean divorce and I would be separated from my kids. When I married my wife it was understood that religion would be the foundation of that relationship.

Most active Mormon’s in Utah do not. They spend the day in church and with their family. Sunday’s are great days to be out on the trails or skiing because there are less people.
I thought you couldn't work on Sunday. If you are a hobby jogger, running isn't work. Right?
I know plenty about it. That's how I'm able to say that it's difficult to conceive of a more demented and goofy religion. If I didn't know much about the religion, I would never have commented.
OK, I'll take you at your word. Your reply is a remarkable contrast to the other posts from the shills for the cult. I would say that I understand the depths of your dilemma, except that I probably don't, and I'm glad not to be in your shoes. I would say to take the kids and run, but that's probably naive on my part. I sincerely wish you luck, too. Religion is poison, mormonism more than most, as you have so ably demonstrated.
Last time I was in SLC I stopped in a running store where they were selling black polyester body suits . I asked the clerk what they were for and she said “ to run at night without being seen.” I didn’t know if she was joking or it was a LDS thing so I didn’t ask why . So yeah maybe it happens .
and if they do are they wearing jesus jammies?

I'm sure they will be friendly.
Isaiah 58:13 ¶ If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Taklk on the Sabbath by the current Pres of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (given a while ago before he became Pres).
One of my regular running buddies is LDS. Fairly hardcore too... Has family, kids, etc.
Runs every Sunday afternoon/evening. Long run typically.
LDS people are, in my experience, very fine folks.
Organizationally, I don't get the rigid ( so I've heard, anecdotally at least) tithing bit. We Catholics give what we give and it all works out for the most part. Half the people at my church probably give nothing or next to nothing.. They're no less welcome. I get the feeling, and maybe I'm wrong, that would be frowned upon in an LDS church.
