Pretty sure the concrete proof provided on here that the world is flat is bigger news.
Also JR once proved cancer could be cured by the patient ignoring doctors going straight home and just being healthy.
Honorable mention to Jon Orange for proving drugs don't work.
It wasn’t before the photos were released... But a guy did realize that he had a very high resolution photo of one of the terrorists (much better than the grainy security cam picture)...and posted it on the forum asking others what he should do with it.
Photo was picked up by NYT and law enforcement.

Can someone find that thread, and the display page from that thread, and post a link here? It would be interesting to see it, and so far I haven't found it in the archives.
As to the biggest scoop ever, well, the death of a disturbed cheat claiming, for nearly 40 years, to have won perhaps the most prestigious marathon of all time trumps any other story. A cross-country ultramarathon cheat was huge news, and so was the story of a recent suicide by a marathon cheat, but they were not claiming to have won anything like the legendary Boston Marathon. Forget the masters-level record claimed by what's-his-name (RIP) -- it did not compare to what the best, at much younger ages, have run over the same distance. But Rosie -- ain't nothin' gonna top that madness. The marathon bombing and its aftermath make for horrendous news, and the tragedy certainly deserves to be high ranked, too, but I've gotta put Rosie at the top of the list.
Uuuummmmmm ever heard of Frank Meza?
Someone dies and you're really wondering if it's the biggest scoop or not? Maybe it's not meant to sound cold, but damn man someone died.

Doesn’t matter. MSM no longer has any credibility.
Colorado police and news organizations monitor these boards looking for Oscar Ponce updates.

Uuuummmmmm, it's not worth it to me to mention the man's name. I could have but didn't, by choice. You can take my decision to withhold his name, and that of the bogus run-across-the-US dude, any way you wish.

Not sure if you're referring to my post, what in the f, or just the title of the thread. I mentioned three cases where someone died:
1. Rosie's death
2. That male marathon cheat's recent death
3. Those who died from the Boston Marathon bomb blast.
I rank Rosie's as the biggest scoop ever, not diminishing the tragic nature of the other deaths. And I don't know what the total number of pages of Rosie-related posts are greater than any other topic, but that's not my measure of "biggest scoop ever".
I put Rosie above any other topics, like drug busts.

thread in general, sorry
Technically, The Smoking Gun got the scoop, but the LR boards sure blew up when the OP shared this tidbit.

Yes the was by far the biggest accomplishment of the Letsrn message board. The poster that solved the case should be commended.

+1
This is the biggest contribution by LRC to new operations.
Repeat that in English please?
Did the LRC faihful have anything to do with outing the ultramarathoner who was hiding in port-o-lets and skipping laps to win races.

Where can we find this thread?
I have to thank the LetsRun community for their fight against Islamic terrorism.
I actually didn’t realize LR had the Paul Ryan “2:50-something” that gave us 4 more years of Obama (I’m a liberal).
Hey...it's me TakeTheT AKA Mike Atwood.
Yeah, so here's the REAL story.......
One of my friends, who is a Boston Herald sports contributor posted on Facebook "Rest In Peace, Rosie Ruiz. A troubled soul" or something to that affect. He also posted the obituary later in the FB thread.
I didn't believe it.
Then, a second friend from Boston, another distance guy from the 80s, marathoner, owner of a tech fitness company posted the same thing.
Now, I was really curious.
This was a MASSIVE story in 1980. I watched it from home as an 8-year old and I couldn't believe someone would cheat like this to win our beloved Boston Marathon. I later ran for Boston College and was coached by a 5th place, 2:11 finisher in Boston Marathon, a rival of Bill Rodgers before he exploded. I also qualified for Boston three times.
Here's the bottom line: both previous posters shared the obituary of Rosie Vivas. Neither thought anyone would STILL care. I asked "permission" then posted on LetsRun. I was shocked that no one had figured this out.
RoJo found the thread and wrote his article, which was great. Who am I? I just found a FB post and I can't break 35 minutes for 5 miles these days.
I was give some vague credit for this. RoJo tried to contact me to get permission to use my name etc. I was on vacation and I missed the message. We e-mailed and he was then concerned it was fake news...you should see the article the Boston Globe guy wrote about the editors not wanting to publish the obituary until they had 100% confirmation.
The Washington Post then NY Times then went with it. As I was driving south on Friday, August 8th, about a month after the actual death, it was all over NY radio.
I'm a high school teacher. I used to be a high school track coach for 20+ years. I also wrote for the Boston Globe for three years back in college. It was a fun "investigative" adventure that exposed a cheater, yet once again.
With the cheaters out there these days, mostly featured by MarathonInvestigation.com I felt it was still relevant.
That and two bucks and a quarter will get me a ride on the T.
