Gareau talks about feeling sad for Rosie, more than for herself. Well, think about it. Rosie was obviously damaged goods, and her responses in the NYC Marathon and Boston Marathon, and forever afterwards, show deep trouble. What she did was ridiculously wrong, but there's still room for compassion.
a shame that Gareau had to receive her laurel wreath (that was all Boston winner's received then) after the fact, and despite a great PB performance (2:32?) it was always overshadowed by the Ruiz fiasco--I still remember the post-race interview where she stated that she did not know what interval training was, to the shock of the interviewers...her gig was up soon after...
