The USTFCCCA has a nice feature on Jonathaas.
Wadeline Jonathas transferred into South Carolina this year as a 9-time DIII champ. However, she wanted to show everyone she was for real. So on the first day of practice in September, they had a time trial at 800. She went all out and ran herself into the hospital. She said she kept the lead for 760m.
No one doubted her commitment after that and no one can doubt her talent as she won NCAAs and also made it Worlds by placing third at USAs. At South Carolina, she improved her pb from 52.81 to 50.44 this year.

Not sure why you added "this year" in your comment?
You might want to edit: "Wadeline Jonathas transferred into South Carolina THIS YEAR as a 9-time DIII champ. However, she wanted to show everyone she was for real."
To this:
"Wadeline Jonathas transferred into South Carolina LAST YEAR as a 9-time DIII champ. However, she wanted to show everyone she was for real." -
Been sayin this but she is the one to watch for in the 400m for a hope in Doha. Extremely humble and shy. She is now under a great coaching system that produced Natasha Hastings with the Gamecocks.

I watched her dominate every race when she was still a DIII athlete at UMass-Boston. I thought she'd be really good in D1, at least as a member of an SEC 4x4. But never in my wildest dreams did I think she'd drop 2.4 seconds in a year and win all the things she did. The way she adjusted D1 and progressed so quickly is extremely impressive. She probably has even more room to grow.

Hahahaha that's freaking baller. She's got guts. Does anyone know what time she was on track to finish with?

Racing into disaster in an event longer than one usually races does not indicate future greatness in a longer event. Sometimes in high school XC, first 1/2 mile split is given. I had a XC and T&F teammate who went out sub-2:10 first half mile, dropped out and never raced aggressively in XC again. I went out sub-2:15 first half mile once, ran into a wall and never raced XC races aggressively again in high school. I assume Wadeline Jonathas went out first 400m sub-60 in said 800m TT. Let's see if she does that again anytime soon. -

Bad coaching at her previous school and great coaching from Curtis Frye -
why would an all out 800 cause tachycardia?
-
improving from 52.81,to 50.44 is extremely suspicious and ridiculous, and not possible at that leval, without a lot of chemical help.even the russians,at their most blatent rarely improved that much, over a 12 month period.if you wonder why i think all americans are dopers without exception, well, thats just one of the reasons.its a fair bet her physique has totally morphed in the last 12 months ,as well.

You a troll and know zero about her background training. She finally is where she belonged all along in D1 and at South Carolina. Makes complete sense.

Thank you, Haiti!

bulldust! i dont doubt she and others can improve with decent coaching, and moving up to division 1,but an improvement of almost 3 seconds is way beyond a normal progression. .its otherworldly and ridiculous.
who made you an expert? -
Why the eff would someone ever need to be hospitalized after an 800? An asthma attack? Blowing out a knee?
Talk about a waste of time and resources. -
Is this really something to celebrate?

This happens all the time when athletes jump from high school to college. Like hundreds of times every year. Jumping from a no-name D3 school to South Carolina is basically equivalent to that. -

I've seen over 1000 800m races and the worst I've seen is a guy who puked for 10 min after. He was also a jumped-up 400 guy. -
Pure Ozzy innuendo and baseless. Jeff, sorry.

What was her time? I know I’m not the only one wondering.

me in high school:
freshman - 54.2
sophomore - 53.3
junior - 50.3
senior - 49.6
between my sophomore and junior track seasons i grew 7 inches and gained about 30 pounds. plus, i was less afraid of the pain of a 400m and made a breakthrough mentally. Once i started running 50.x's, I went out in 54 for my 800m races as well. -

Look at her 200m progression. From 2017 to 2019, 23.67 to 23.20. From age 19 to age 21, that is very normal. You only are focusing on Wadeline Jonathas' 400m progression. A 400m personal best of 50.44 with a 200m personal best of 23.20 is normal. I have never watched her race, but I am sure it is two things: Jonathas now has the confidence to sprint nearly all out on back stretch during 400m races &/or once she suffers pain with 150m to go, Jonathas is now physiologically & psychologically able to deal with pain.
