Sub-14 talent?
Serious question.
Sub-14 talent?
Serious question.
Completely unknown to people that live under a rock.
KoKo has run a 1:59 800m with a 57 first lap in 2017, but she cannot switch cadence to that very fast kick like Muir and others. Maybe this is the downside of her very long stride. If you watch that race of today she's running 69 sec. laps or faster and it looks slowish and as if she could just keep going at such pace and be fairly comfortable. An acquaintance of mine compared her to Ayana in that respect already two years ago. And even back then when she was focussing on the 1500m, her German coach said that the future would be the 5k/10k. She seems to love the 1500m, but I hope the coaches can convince her to go for the 5000m in Doha. (And maybe even 10k/5k double in Tokyo.)

Sub 14 at 5000m??
KOKO is rockin! Wow. If she progresses without major injuries, who knows how fast she could go for 5k..

Another completely unknown person out of nowhere absolutely annihilates a record. Totally not fishy in any sense...
Yeah if unknown is been the most hyped prodigy outside of Africa for the last 5 years, I'd love to know what known is.

Another NOP transformation!
Not really. She ran 14:51 solo with a huge negative split already in May 2017 and would probably have been around 14:35 shape already back then. NOP did the fine tuning, but most of this was already there two years ago.
you mean YES REALLY. Another good job by NOP
A great accomplishment and thanks for posting the link to the race!
I've never before watched a runner who can run so fast while appearing to run slowly. It may be tough for her to keep this form through to Doha however.
14:28 is not all that impressive... I know semi-pro runners with day-jobs and kids who pull of that time consistantly...
Imagine her in a Marathon??
Another Radcliffe with that ease of form.
Few points ...
1) She ran a great time. Not world-breaking time. The announcers sounded like Arnold Schwarznegger while getting excited.
2) Why did the slow pokes not get out of lane 1. Do they have any respect for a great track runner?
3) When finishing - why did she move over to lane 1. She had just passed some runners and knew they would be in Lane 1. Why did she move over to impede their progress?
Who came up with KoKo? Koko is, was and will always be a chimp!!! There is only one KoKo
That is bucking fadass to run the 4th k in 2:49
That was great! Thanks for posting the video. If a picture is worth a thousand words... Her moms reaction in the stands is the best.
Also I guess it's not illegal to televise an entire distance race in Germany without interspersing some random javelin or jump.

Hassan just did run 14:22, why should we ask what she could run?
8:20 is still slightly better than 14:26 and this was solo and with a slight negative split, so I'd think that Koko could run 14:20-22, depending on how evenly paced the race was. TBH, I am not sure if she could have kept up with the last 1000m in 2:41 in the London 5000m race (Hassan couldn't...)
That's because Hassan paced and made that race. They were all running scared in the second half of that race due to the Semenya factor. Hassan intentionally pushed it hard, but a little bit too hard, and crashed. Kipyegon went with, but slightly stayed off and preserve something for the stretch.
Kipyegon hasn’t run a 5k since 2015. That was Obiri who won the race (who, herself, can also probably run faster than her 14:18 PR).
Now having watched the video, it’s clear the German fans are more enthused about track than in the US. That’s a BIG stadium, and as KOKO hit the bell lap they were on their feet and really making some noise. Too bad we don’t have this in US unless race is in much smaller venue like Eugene.
Great run. Just enjoy this running Style

I absolutely agree with the Ayana comparison. I too believe her future is the 10k and above. Female distance running is in an exciting place right now. For too long races have been run in a one dimensional manner. -All the ladies in a pack until a last lap beat up. This is fine for the kickers but not for those with long pace like Ayana, Gidey, Koko etc. Ayana was the first to specifically devote her training to front run and the other talents have followed suit.
No longer will championship races be run in such a historically predictable fashion. Exciting times ahead for sure.

Yes, if her body can with stand the rigors of Marathon training, she will run 2:17-2:18.......or who knows maybe faster.
