Not that I’m too shocked, but in a *semi* tactical race him over Centro is awesome. I’m a Centro fan for sure as well, but could this be a passing of the torch? So stoked for the dude!

Guy totally deserves it. Seems like a really nice guy.
My opinion: what was most surprising about this race was that more people weren't picking Engels to win it (looking at you, Brojos). Engels' run at Prefontaine was more than enough to convince any astute observer of the sport that he was the top dog heading into today; it wasn't just the overall time, but the ease with which he was able to shift gears in the final 100m to put some serious distance between himself and Centro.
It will be a different story over the next few months as Centro rounds into shape--he did not look as sharp over the last 100m as he has at his peak--and it is far too early to claim any changing of the guard. Centro only lost by .04, and he has not had the consistent training Engels has over the last several months.

Fair that it’s too soon to tell, but would be awesome to see another American to actually be able to go toe-to-toe with the Kenyans / Ethiopeans, Centro couldn’t get below 3:30... can Engels?
Which “Ethiopeans” (sic)? That’s one of the last countries to worry about. In this year’s 1500m rankings, there are 2 Norwegians, a Kenyan, Djiboutian, Ugandan, and Brit before the first Ethiopian, and their #2 runner isn’t even in the top 25. And ONE ETHIOPIAN EVER has broken 3:31, Norway has had twice that many in the last month.

Except when he's surprised to find out he's not racing Americans.
Is there video of the race available?

Lol. I was wondering the same thing. Maybe this guy is stuck in 2014? There is no plural Kenyan threat anymore and many other countries other than Ethiopia a threat. UK is more of a threat!
