I never said you weren't well within your rights to criticize him. If you'll re-read my post, I said you'd be *pathetic* for doing so, having never been in the position he's been in and not being able to empathize with the tremendous pressures of trying to stay healthy and compete at the highest level.
So it's your contention that it's "pathetic" to criticize the actions of anyone whose position you've never been in. Criticizing politicians is pathetic. Criticizing professional athletes is pathetic. Criticizing your investment manager is pathetic. Criticizing your plumber is pathetic. Criticizing your children's teachers is pathetic. Got it.
I know you're a troll so I feel silly for responding to this, but I'll tell you why the logic doesn't extend in the ways you say it does. If Hunter doesn't do well, that has an impact on his livelihood and emotional state, and has no financial or emotional impact on your life whatsoever. I think politicians and teachers and doctors, financial advisors, and plumbers, etc., should be held accountable for their actions, because their professions have critical impacts on the lives of others in ways that a professional runner pursuing their goals does not.
No assertion you made logically follows from what I said, but I assume you don't care, so have a good day.

Wait, we are supposed to be excited he made the team after finishing 5th at USAs? This just pisses me off and reminds me how many mistakes USATF makes.
1) USATF should have had the meet 2-3 weeks later.
2) If they were going to have the meet this early, they should have allowed you to chase the standard.
First off, congrats to Drew for "Qualifying". He did run the standard and per the rules he's on the team.
Now, I'm with rojo on this. Really??? 5th place and you're on the team??? Come on now, part of "Making the Team" is that you run the standard AND place in the TOP 3.....PERIOD!!! and yes, if you place in the top 3 and don't have the standard you should have an opportunity to get it in a reasonable time period afterward (2-4 weeks??). USATF needs to figure this out and schedule the U.S. Champs earlier to accommodate this. Also, make placing in the top 3 w/standard mandatory. If you don't.....you don't go.
Nonetheless, Drew made it and congrats to him. He's a great talent and is still very young.

However, given the facts surrounding what happened yesterday, you're analogy makes zero sense.
Nice try, douche.
"Your" is the possessive, not "you're".
Shíthead.
A blizzard of triggered snowflakes womp womp womping about a 21 year old's race. He met the standard and place high enough to qualify. End of chapter. Next chapter, what remains of the DL or any circuit overseas and of course WCs. Meanwhile see how he does over the next 5-6 years.
But we know the truth, no matter what, the letsrun trolls will go womp womp womp from mom's basement.
Then we collectively have to improve our system's efficacy in developing runners so that everyone in the final has hit the standard before that point. Not contort the qualification system to athletes who are just barely able to hit the standard in a fantasy perfect scenario. Or how about we make the meet standards the WC standards? Then we're guaranteed that everyone in contention has the qualifier standard. Okay, not so much, that doesn't serve development very well.
We aren't entitled to just push our poorly developed athletes through to any global championship, we shouldn't act like we are. USA Outdoor Champs or Olympic Trials are qualifier events, let's not confuse them for anything more than that. It's not a perfect world and life isn't fair.
That's an important distinction that you neither stated nor implied until this post (that it has to impact the critic in order to not be pathetic), which adds much needed clarity to your point. So you think anyone criticizing professional athletes is pathetic. You're entitled to your opinion, though you appear to be in a very small minority.
damn i didn’t know so many letsrun users signed a 10 year contract right out of high school. he’s doing his job - he’s making teams. good for him. get that $$$
Isn't this his first year competing at the 5000? Making a WT your first year at an event isn't too shabby. I'm not surprised at all that the older, more experienced guys are beating him at an event that generally favors more seasoned runners, especially since he's been focused on the 1500 the past 4 years.

Thank you. no need to bring the guy down whatsoever. pretty sure payton jordan was drew’s 2nd track 5k ever. He has room to grow.

Out of curiosity, when was the last time the US had a 21 year old make our men's 5000m team for the Olympics or World Championship?
oops. You said striders.
Jaeger made the 5k team at 20

This is patently false. Everyone in tinman's group is a several time all american. Most have run sub 4 or the equivalent 1500m. They are plenty talented enough.
Drew was never a "nobody" in high school. Drew was going to break 4 in high school no matter who coached him. Tinman doesn't deserve 1/4th of the praise that he gets.
Very good run by Hunter but he has to move up to the roads. His PR at 22 is only 13:21. That's good for US standards but their are currently 24 runners in the world that are his age or younger that have run faster. And his current world ranking is 57th. The top 50 half marathoners in the world can run 13:21. The sooner he transitions the better.

Tinmans training is good. It’s not special but it does the job.
The reason Tinman said Hunter has no talent is because Tinman is one of those coaches who thinks that he creates the athletes. He has an incentive to minimize the talent of his athletes to elevate the mystique of his coaching.
He highlights the good and minimizes the bad. But in a few years his Shtick will wear on athletes.
Look at grace Ping. He touted her success. Said he was taking a long term approach. She’s regressing. Now they fired Tinman as a coach. He’ll blame her lack of improvement on her leaving him.
Hunter will be a fine runner. He’s talented. He won’t be a sub 13 guy. He moves too poorly.
Very accurate. Tinman is a narcissist. He only wants to promote his own ego/reputation. He will call Drew untalented to make himself look like a better coach. People will soon catch on to his BS.
Ping was smart to fire him.
There is no way in hell those Drake dudes were "several time all americans".
