I think amateur psychologists tend to over use the term OCD, applying a real mental health condition to anyone who is very focused and hard working.
Nonetheless, as the adult son of an alcoholic father, I know I used the structure and stability of distance running training as a kind of escape, and I really connected with that part of Frank Shorter's story (go read his book).
Unfortunately, I wasn't quite blessed with the genetic gifts that Frank was...I topped out at college walk on and local turkey trot contender.
