Goes back to the days of American Indians and their running prowess...used to be a feather sticking out of the CC, but that was deemed un-PC. Not sure why an arrow is any better but it looks cool.
Do all of you use CC or XC? Maybe I'm old school but I think it should be CC!!!

I don't know how old you are but when I ran in the late '70s / early '80s it was CC...... Maybe it's a regional thing?
it was cc when i ran. never heard xc till much later.
XC is so much cooler than CC. CC is lame.

No, X is cool and edgy like the XFL.
I'm not sure there's one answer, but to me, the arrows always evoked the chalk arrows that frequently denote turns in courses.

It just signifies speed. It was CC until Nike NXN popularized the X.

An X is a criss-cross, so it can stand for criss (Xmas) or cross (X-Country, or Pedestrian X-ing).
