Researchers have no clue where the idea of a 10,000-steps daily goal came from.
A clinical study that looked at approximately 17,000 older women with an average age of 70, the prospect of dying decreased by 40% when they walked just 4,400 steps daily when compared with women who got 2,700 steps. They had additional benefit up to 7,500 steps a day; however, the death risk leveled off.
The most active group had a 58% lower risk of dying during follow-up because they walked 8,500 steps daily basis. The researchers concluded that there was no statistically significant difference when it comes to the intensity of activity.
