1500m to 5000m is a big f+++ing jump
why no 3000 without the barriers?
it would be like only having the 400m hurdles and no open 400m for sprinters

Have you thought about the fact there is 3000m races?
The last thing track meets need is MORE races. They already take all freaking day.
Agreed...
Championship meets should cut the 200m, 800m and 5000m... and the triple jump.
Those just feel like second tier events.

I think its fine. The 3000m would divide too many 1500m and 5000m runners. We already have a place for those without the wheels or endurance to specialize....the steeple chase. Personally I think they should add the DMR. It is such a no-brainer event to add. Everyone loves it indoors. Everyone loves it at Penn Relays. Everyone love relays in general. It brings together mid-distance and sprint kids. Just really great for a team.
They need to ditch the 10,000m in my opinion. People hang around on the track trying to do 10ks for too long instead of just moving up to road races already. It doesn't "develop" runners for the marathon that much. It just holds them back. How many people have stagnated in that event, only to try out the marathon and completely break through? Save it for XC. Track is for faster events. 5,000m is as long as they need to go.

I disagree with the 800 but definitely agree with the others. Usually, the 200 and 5000 winners have already won gold in another event. On the field side the hammer throw also needs to go. I could also be talked into the 400m hurdles being gone, kind of the red-headed stepchild to the short hurdles or the 400m. It goes without saying all race walking needs to be gone yesterday.
Cut the 10k, not the 5k. Nobody needs to watch 25 laps.
I agree that a lot of these meets are ridiculously long, and adding a DMR would be a good idea. Structuring it in the meet is difficult, but here’s a good schedule of events that includes 3 of everything (sprint, distance, throws, jumps, and the 800 with 2 relays). Also, have the meets be segregated to men only with a 30 minute break, then women only. Most meets can be completed in 2 hours.
Steeplechase
4x100 Relay
Mile Run
110m Hurdles
400m
100m
800m
400m Hurdles
200m
5,000m
4 x 400 meter relay
Field:
Shot
Disc
Javelin
Long Jump
High Jump
Pole Vault
Bad comparison. Really, there is no comparison. Say, a 100m sprinter, can also run the 400m, which is 4x the distance. A “distance” runner may run the 1500m and double back and run the 5000m, roughly 3x the distance. If you have rounds, it gets more complicated but doable since most middle distance runners do have the 5000m as a second run but few short sprinters double back for the 4, unless it’s a relay. So maybe sprinters get jobbed.
The DMR belongs indoors, no place for it outdoors. Maybe in the Olympics and WC but clearly slanted for the US to take two more golds.

What about in college? I really want it there, and think that's what the guy who brought it up was talking about.

Triple jump is awesome..
T&F and other athletic pursuits were meant for military personnel to train without killing each other and without military personnel permanently injuring themselves. Thus the reason for events like discus, hammer throw, pole vault, shot put, triple jump and other events.
Runners who prefer to race distances 800m and longer are obviously all not the same, but longer races in the stadium are not fan friendly. Five-thousand metres and 10000m never should have been added to Olympics. A 12K XC race away from the Olympic stadium would be fine.
Event changes needed for Olympics & W.C: Drop 5000m and drop 10000m. Add 12K XC for both men and women. Add 200m low hurdles. Add 200m on straightaway. Add 3000m. I would be okay with 200m on curve being dropped as long as we add 200m on straightaway. I do not like 200m runners having to worry about stepping on the white lane line and getting DQ'ed. Shorter running events are fan friendly.
How about 'suicide 200m' races? Athletes sprint 100m, touch the finish line, and race back to the start! That would be much more entertaining than a fully straight 200m
