Jakob is likely in 3:29 low/3:28 high shape in the perfect race. He was .5 behind here BUT Timmy had a pretty bad run as far as extra effort/pacing etc. He was slow off the line and had to fight through (including being impeded by Filip) and then ran wide throughout the first lap trying to get the second rabbit in place. He wasted energy passing Som who did start to slow down. He got passed by Jakob I think a tad prematurely and wasted some energy dealing with that and re-passing later. Jakob meanwhile ran pretty evenly and had a smooth ride. Pacing wasn't great, which is why he got 3:40. That being said, I think Grice did about as much extra running as anyone, so while that 3:30 is great for him, he might have more in the tank himself. 3rd-placer also left too much at the end.

where is Coevett to explain to me why Jakob didn't break 3:30 ....??....?
well since Jakob was only .4 seconds away from the proclaimed worlds best runner and who is proclaimed to be able to go 3:26, it would seem Jakob is ready for a 3:27, if not 3:26 mid?
I don't think you realize the Africans didn't want Jakob beating Farahs mark, and idn't want Jakob to end up top 5 of all time. It would look bad for them. They did everything they could to prevent that.
