Beyond the other comments I've made in this thread, I wanted to mention a few things about this speech.
I love that in this country, people like this can speak however they want. It's not a lot different from how some people use Twitter, if you think about it.
And anyone commenting on the validity of soccer, while holding onto the shared belief around here that anyone actually cares about distance running, can put a sock in it. Soccer is the biggest sport in the world, has been for a long time, and will be even bigger in the future. And if you didn't notice, distance events are no longer as prevalent in track meets, or don't exist at all.
Some are moving forward, others being left behind. Keep that in mind.
So I guess that’s progress? Soccer is huge internationally, and people generally don’t care about distance running - no argument there.
But I guess Hinkle wasn’t allowed the same freedom of speech given to Rapinoe? You either buy into the super-woke ideology or you are alienated?
My daughters play soccer. My oldest watched the World Cup and made the observation of her own accord that Rapinoe was basically dissing the National Anthem and was given Morgan’s PK, effectively stealing the boot from Morgan.
Thankfully, she is leaving the sport. It is less skill and finesse and much more a game of physical might and wrestling in high school anymore. I don’t see the Rapinoe’s of the world as heroes when they are espousing their own brand of hate and expletive-riden tirades.
Oh, and, I stand firm that nobody really cares about women’s soccer beyond high school. They barely generate enough revenue to sustain a national league.
