For a miler, 165 ibs is not too large.

He just won a world Championship and is the favorite to win the Olympic Title next year. I think he's doing just fine as an 800m guy.

This is actually completely wrong: Kaki didn't work for years at 1500m. His IAAF profile shows a clear story - he ran some token races in the late 2000s (3:39s) and then hoped in Monaco in 2011 and was drug through to 3:31 for 3rd.

A better comparison would be Krumm, who was primarily a 800m guy but dabbled in 1500m in the prime of his career with decent mid-3:30s SB over 9 years and a hot 3:31.93 in Stockholm. I think Brazier has that kind of potential and ability to be consistent (unlike Wheating's one-off 3:30).

I'm sure Brazier could run a 3:30-3:32 1500m in a time trial race, but not sure what that accomplishes for him? Better to stick with the 800 where he's thriving than be an also-ran having to scrap to make finals given all that 1500m depth.

Troll you pick out of the two people I named to try to make your point. Brazier isn't skin and bones but what muscle are you talking about shedding, he's built like a 800m/1500m runner. You keep overlooking the point the guy ran 4:07 in high school of less then 30 mpw and a sub 16 min 5000m cross country. He have HELLVA endurance and just because he is AFRICAN AMERICAN and fast at 800m most poster assume he can't become a world class/medalist 1500m runner.

Look back at his high school days off less then 30 mpw and tell me how many HS milers could accomplish what he did off LESS then 30 mpw. Brazier have more endurance and the potential to develop that endurance then most of the posters here are giving him credit. I 'm certain in his prime (23 - 27 yrs old) he can and will run sub 3:30 once he focus at least 2-3 years on 1500m training.

Now as for his size...wasn't Stev Cram, Joaquim Cruz all taller then Brazier and about the same body type? Sure there are others to mute your ridiculous point TROLL.

To be honest with you I actually think Donovan Brazier has the potential to run around 3:28.75 if he was to focus enough time to the 1500m in his prime after say the 2020 Olympics but no later then 2023 Worlds! Of course the increase mileage would drop his weight alittle from 165 to maybe low 150's but there have been notable sub 3:30 1500m his height and 150 weight range to know he is capable of the samething with his uncanny endurance and talent.

You have no facts. You are restating Brazier's high school 1600m performances as if I am not aware. Cram was more than ten pounds less than Brazier. I am always amused by the desire of the uneducated masses to always push a successful athlete up a division.

Imagine Bolt at 400?

Imagine Brazier at 1500.

Imagine Centro at 5 k

Imagine Wariner at 800.

The issue for going up is never one off races.

It's that championships are always about rounds. Its not rare for a world class runner to go up in distance and run world class times. Its not common for them to run those times after 4 races in 4 days.

You're acting like a troll if you insist that 165 is too big for a miler and you're only a world class miler if you have gone under 3:30 for 1500.

Jim Ryun ran 3:33.1 WR/3:51.1 WR/3:51.3 WR/1:44.8y WR at 6'2" 168 lbs.

He closed one of those 1500s or miles in 2:46. He did most of it without pacers on cinder or dirt tracks. I have no doubt in my mind that he could have run sub 3:30, way under 3:30 and way under 1:43, on mondo with pacers, and several attempts in his incredible 1967 shape. Donavan Brazier's not too heavy to be a great 1500m runner.
