He placed 2nd behind Worku in 7:43, ahead of Wanders and Tiernan.

meh.
40 year old Lagat would have beat him by 6 seconds. How old is the "King" yet? Shouldn't he have moved up to world class times from his college-level stuff?

Exactly.
That's not his PR. He ran 7:40 at Millrose in 2016.

It's a outdoor PB, yes he has gone faster indoors. Next up is his outdoor 5000 PB.
next up 5000 meaning what, he's satisfied with 7:43 or even 7:40?
Bekele went through 3K in 7:37 and continued on for another 2K. So the person who said "meh" - I kind of agree with.

Still not his PR. He’s run 7:38.
Holy crap he put together 2 races without an injury that is the story here.
Hey all star coach/manager how is that citizenship coming along for the old man? Ever gonna happen?
What nation is he King of?
Sure the 7:43 is nothing crazy, but it's also certainly not bad and we don't know how the race played out.
To all the haters, he did run something like 13:09 in February for the 5k, soooo I'd say he's doing just fine. He just needs to stay healthy so he can get to more starting lines. Since he is racing, and just ran 7:43, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a sub 13:10 outdoors for him later this summer, which puts him top 20 or so in the world. Maybe he'll even hit a 13 flat and be top 10 in the world. And he's 24 or 25 at the very oldest, so he'll be around for another decade and will probably start to be at his best in a couple more years.

Lol, yeah that's a reasonable comparison. The metric for "hey that's pretty good" is how it compares to the fastest 5000m ever run?
Wtf does King Ches' run have to do with Bekele's 5000m WR from 15 years ago??
Was he racing in the Sketchers Next% spike?

I think Berega ran the last 3k in 7:30/32 last year in Brussels. Obviously the King isn't on the good stuff.
Great progression for Wanders. From 7:50 last year to 7:43 today. He came quite close to the Swiss record of 7:41. I think that he could get it in a faster race.
Wanders:
3000m
2017 8:18
2018 7:50
2019 7:43
5000m
2017 13:37
2018 13:24
2019 13:13

Gebrhiwet just ran 13:09 after sprinting 300 meters to the bell, stopping, then jogging it in on dead legs

What a great, positive post.
7:43 in fine, in a race won in 7:43. He was 2nd. I don't know if the pace slowed or it became tactical but that seems like a solid result to me. Nobody is saying it's other worldly but it's good to see him racing. I want to see him do well.
Thread title is wrong.....should be one of these:
"King Ches is back, baby!"
"King Ches goes home devastated!"
