I am a democrat, and this woman was inappropriately terminated. After reading about the story, it appears that the majority of the faculty were democrats, and they didn't too much care for her political beliefs, even though she respected theirs. She provided her political views during her personal time, and her speech took place at a conference that had no affiliation with the school or educational system.
She is entitled to freedom of press and speech, and she is entitled to her beliefs, as long as she is not abusing or degrading another citizen, institution, company, etc.
It appears that she is a liberal conservative, where she is a republican, but isn't afraid to address the issues of her party, and she would often critique the president.
We all have our beliefs, and the focal point is to disagree agreeable. I consider myself to be a liberal, unbiased figure, but I must say that democrats have become militant in their ways when comes to the beliefs of others. These ultra democrats are not respecting freedom of choice, and if you don't follow their views and perception, then you are automatically ostracized. It's quite extreme.
It also appears that she was an excellent educator, and not only loved her job, but also appreciated her students.
"Teaching because she has such a passion for her students, Karen’s students were equally blessed to have such a gifted, unbiased mentor in their lives. According to Karen, she was the only conservative teacher at the school while the rest were very vocal leftists, some who encouraged their students towards political activism on the school campus.
Karen’s own political activism was focused outside of her school, and even though she was a registered Republican she spoke against injustice for both sides of the political aisle. When she founded her Los Angeles activist organization “Rage Against the Media” Karen was pointing out the one thing journalists once claimed to despise: bias in the media."
