Paul Doyle texted me tonight about one of the strangest stories I've ever encountered in track & field.
He's in Greenville, South Carolina, where he's putting on the Liberty Bridge Jump Off, which will be held tomorrow and features an elite pole vault. Sandi Morris is competing. Volunteers were setting up the runway and pit tonight, when a woman drove through the barricades and sent them diving out of the way into the bushes. She broke some of the standards (Morris said that they need to get replacement ones from Clemson now) and eventually hit another moving vehicle, according to WYFF.
The craziest part is included in the story below: the car was stolen, and "the incident began as the woman threw sticks and a snake at the victim before striking her with her fist and stealing her keys and vehicle, police said."
Thankfully it seems that no one was hurt, other than the driver (who suffered an injured shoulder).
If you guys can remember a stranger incident from the T&F world this year, let me know. Video of the aftermath below from Doyle and Morris.
