that lawyer from the DA’s office who threatened us, then apologized.
When exactly did that apology happen? I remember the comments section reply in the LA Times article and the attempt to intimidate innocents using the power and title of his office (scumbag move), but I don't recall ever seeing an official apology that was verifiably from that man. Are you talking about the impersonator that came to these message boards and posted?
In my opinion, aside from Frank that guy was legitimately the second biggest villain in this whole ordeal, maybe third at most behind the coach that threatened Amby Burfoot on the phone
It doesn't matter if he apologized and his office had absolutely no power as nothing criminal was occurring. Did anyone actually feel intimidated?
I also believe Frank was acting alone. Some people on this thread seem to believe his family are scum, but they are educated, successful people and there was no logical motivation for them to help Meza cheat. If he was caught and it was found out they were assisting him, it would have damaged their reputations as well. If my spouse asked for my help to cheat, I would absolutely refuse and I would notify the RD if necessary.
I live in the Sacramento area and looked over the CIM course online. It would be doable to keep running portions of each 5K, leaving the course and coming back for the bike, but it would have taken some serious planning. When the course crossed the American River, the would have had to ride on the bike trail for about a mile, used a pedestrian bridge to cross the river and then cut across the Sac State campus. I ran 2:58 on the course a few years back and were a lots of runners around me before reaching 40K and many spectators, so there must have been people that saw him go onto the course. I guess people just mind their own business.
