"Should have" and "deserved" are not words that are compatible with sports. You play the game, you get the result and then that's it.
What "should have" happened is what happened.
Deserve??????? What? No such thing.
If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle.
If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.
would have, could have, should have.....those ideas are the anthesis of sport....loser language
Just sayng england lost that game more than america won it, but a win is win.
And I'm just saying that the USA through their play caused England to lose the game. On top of that, I'm guessing you didn't actually watch the game, because the tea sip goal, for example, was outstanding play on the part of the USA. Superior.
Would have been really funny if US mimed brushing their teeth.
I'll never understand this mentality. You don't get points for controlling possession. The object of the game is to score more goals than your opponent. That's it. End of story. That's like saying that my team lost a basketball game, but we "deserved" to win because we had more dribbles. WTF?
You give an example of the blocked penalty. Yes, that's an example of the USA outplaying England on that particular play. USA goalie was superior on that play.
Missed the sitter? Poor play by England. USA converted more often.
All of these things speak to the reasons why the USA won.
What Brit stereotype inspired celebration would you have preferred, Scorpion - The one where she sips tea with an extended pinkie or the one where she pretends to down a dozen pints and then starts a drunken brawl?
Has that Rapinoe chic ever gone to a restaurant and *not* asked to speak to the manager? ???

What they really need is props. If we play the Dutch, we could get little wooden shoes. Next time we score against Mexico we could go with the swimming and then fence climbing pantomime. Maybe a tribal dance for the next African team we play.
They had thirteen opportunities to get some ping pong balls out when they played Thailand.
Definitely missed a trick.

White wasn't clearly offside which is why it took the ref a long time to decide. She is pretty much leveled with the player on her right. It does not get any tighter than that. The call should have stood as a goal, with how close it was. That was not an ADVANTAGE.

Jesus Christ. It's just like the WC thread last year where you couldn't understand how tiebreakers and goal differentials work.
I wasn’t talking about the penalty kick, though.

This team is an embarrassment to our nation. They and Rapinoe are in a position to unify the country with sport and have taken the lowest road. I wonder how many of them really don't want to be invited to the "F*&*ng" White House.
Half of the US is now rooting for them to lose.
Rapinoe didn't play because she plays lousy when she has to defend at all and Bronze would have smoked her.
England certainly looked like the better team.
Women's soccer is hard enough to watch as it is - they have the skills of a U12 boys' team.

I retired from these boards two years ago. I'm replying now, because this is the most pitiful attempt at trolling I've seen in a long time.
I don't know why you think you can hang with the big boys. You should just quit. Your childish attempts at trolling have all the skill of a 12 year old who found letsrun for the first time.

Why is this team acting like it’s never been here before?
You’re the best team in the world, even though England was the better team, and should have won. They missed a penalty and a sitter.
My, my, this team is beyond arrogant. This isn’t club level or el Clasico, where anything goes. This is the World Cup, where nations show respect to other nations.
We don’t need to reflect the foolery or our president.
And the comment that they also have the second best team in the tourney?
The men don’t do that. You don’t see classless stuff like that from the men’s World Cup.
You want us to get off your lawn too?
Yeah, the better side does not always go through, and that’s fact. No other team in the tourney played this well against USA. Spain had s little bit of success, but England could have clearly won the game. Those missed chances wasn’t because of america’s great ability. It was because of england’s Inability. No different than a basketball player missing a game tying or game winning free throw. The penalty kick was beyond pathetic.
USA went through, so at the end of the day that is that matters. But America had its hand full with the runs and movement by White.
But again, Americans went through. Hopefully they’ll start acting like the champions that they are , and not a bunch of noobs, like they have never been there.
But the world is catching up, because now other counties are starting to put money into their women. Main reason why USA and Germany have been so dominant is because they were the only ones really putting money into their national programs. Hell you would think that Brasil would hugely back their women’s soccer team, especially with having the greatest female player to ever play the game on their team. Nope. They put no money or promotion into it. Those players carried that team with just pure heart.

No, joedirt is right. He's talking about the 2nd to last pass, not the last one where White was behind the ball. On the pass from the center to the wing, though it didn't go to White, she was offside and gained the advantage that allowed her to be open on the pass where she was behind the ball.
Until the ball is played to her she could be standing behind the end line and not be offside. Only the position at the instant the ball is played to the player is relevant.
A common misconception, but totally incorrect.
just to chip in here, the tea sip was bad sportsmanship, plain and simple.
I mean no one should do that, but do that when you are the favorite and winning is extra special trashy.

Care to explain why you feel that way? Is there something offensive about England and tea? Or better yet, is there anything that England could justifiably be upset about when it comes to tea?
And Scorpio, have you yet to realize that the only reason England had the run of play in the second half was because of the US defensive posture? Doesn’t that count for something in your mind?

Nothing offensive at all.
But it is mocking your opponent, which is a bit poor form.
Would they have pretended to eat with chopsticks after they scored against Japan? Would people be annoyed about it?
If a team openly mocked America after scoring against them, there probably would have been airstrikes by now.
In short, it was something or nothing, but it's a slippery slope when it comes to mocking national stereotypes (and don't give out what you can't take in return.)

It’s professional soccer. They don’t hand out checks and trophies for sportsmanship.

That is patently false. You are offside if you gain a material advantage or affect the play, even if the ball is not played to you.
The scenario in question is shown in diagram 14 under Law 11 and is not an offside offense.
