There is no excuse good enough for an athlete to physically touch a meet official. Your post shows extreme ignorance at best.

I don't really see there's a good reason for an official to touch an athlete either, unless it's to stop them getting hit by a hammer or something.

You’re the only one bringing up race and doping here though. Your entire statement is nothing but unproductive generalisations. Anybody that behaves like Kyle did is a jerk and should be given a warning or punishment for it, doesn’t matter what race they are.

Not excusing it, but...
...Kyle is still only coming back after over a year of injury problems and this was the race to show he was still the UK number 1, and he gets a jobsworth official thinking it's all about himself and trying to disqualify Kyle over nothing and then laying hands on him and following him to the start line.
What a lying hypocrite I've found!
World championship final 2017, Kyle Langford doing his country proud, with commentary by Steve Ovett. Amazing finish by Kyle, Bett was dying on his feet even with all that EPO in his system.
Sad that you support this thug. Birds of a feather.

The original title of the thread is amazing. I love it. A perfect blend of sensationalism with a dash of truth.
That said, the British are known for fighting in pubs for fun on weekends. I'm sure the old dude is fine.
should be suspended for a month or two at least. you don't get to assault officials even if the guy was annoying him. I mean we've seen sprinters refuse to leave the track when they false start but have you ever seen anyone grab the official by the throat? You would all be up in arms and demanding a year suspension if he was black and you know it.
and Coeovett you are the most racist person I've ever met

Tame stuff. When I was first saw this I was expecting to Kyle to have headbutted someone.
You can see in the video that he doesn't strangle anyone, just gives the official a push.
Not excusing it, but you can see that Kyle immediately knows he messed up, and he's apologized to the official and online. He's still vey young.
Explains his performance in the race.
Shows how much this means to him. This was a big race for him, with so many of the top UK guys there and with Max grabbing the headlines the week before.

Despicable.

The eye witness account suggesting that the official singled out Kyle and placed a hand on him is highly believable and totally in keeping with the sort of attitude and behaviour I've seen frequently. I've heard lots of stories from officials who take particular delight in showing the 'big names' that "the rules still apply to them".
If this is true, the elderly official is lucky Kyle did't knock his teeth out. If you touch or grab somebody in an accusatory or aggressive fashion, expect to get hit.

Not as despicable as doping at the UK championships and then spending the rest of your twenties being an apologist for Kenyan doping on a running forum.

I'm genuinely curious. How do you feel about Paula Radcliffe? Given that she's set a record that a legion of confirmed dopers cannot even approach. One that's pretty much in line with those set at the Chinese National Games in 1993. Do you give her a pass because she's British? Or will you call it as it is?
As a disclaimer, I am fully confident that there is rampant doping in Kenya and Ethiopia. I am also confident that the vast majority of the top runners in Western Countries are also doping.

No of course I don't give her a pass because she's British. I've stated many times I think she is suspicious. But at the end of the day, I don't really know, and she never failed a test, even if some of her blood values were loopy.
If there had been a confirmed culture of doping in the UK during the EPO era, then I probably wouldn't hesitate to condemn her, but all the evidence suggests there wasn't a culture of doping here, as opposed to places like Morocco and Kenya (times generally fell in the UK during the EPO era).
I do think some of the flak she gets is because she's a useful 'fallguy' - being blonde and British - so that those here who rightly focus on the massive Kenyan problem can deflect the usual 'racism' accusations from the doping apologists.
Having said that, I would be suspicious of anyone wiling to take a dump on live TV just so their winning time is a few seconds faster.
If Paula did dope, ironically it proves even more that there wasn't a culture of doping in the UK, if you want to use the logic of her being such an 'outlier'. If being so far ahead of her African rivals proves she doped, surely it also proves that her national rivals who were even further behind likely did not dope?
I've never said that British athletes never dope, but all the evidence (and lack of busts ) point to only a few sub-elites such as 'ex-runner' and perhaps one or two gold medalists, such as perhaps Mo or Paula. It's not a rampant and ongoing problem as clearly exists in Morocco and East Africa.

Spot on commentary from the great David Coleman yet again - 'when he was attacked, he didn't give an inch'.
He should be fined and or suspended, doesn’t matter if he had a hard year or is a “good guy”.
Or even if he feels bad about it, doesn’t matter. ... you don’t grab an official around the next, if the official is being a dick , go get someone, ignore him etc
Corbett or whatever his name is probably walks down the street mumbling hateful things about the local minorities who will take his grandkid’s place at prestigious universities and out earn his entire family.
Coevett is a sad pathetic loser. Good luck on ur fun run, try not to strain urself breaking 20 minutes for 5k.
PS, Galen Rupp is on drugs.
I don't think it was his throat, but rather the camera angle. I think it was more of a push on his upper chest/shoulder area
