I predict that you won't be as smooth on the downhills as you should be.

Why you think that dunes runner?
He ran a very fast downhill last mile at his 10 mile PB …...
What’s the over/under on what everyone will think he’s going to run? 2:22?

I myself ran twice exactly the same time 2.22.09 ! in Stockholm Marathon (Sweden), a not so fast marathon with the so called Western Bridge twice .Then I do remember I had around 1:08:30-1:09 both times at half and then lost a couple of minutes the last half. I will probably have Phil to try for a so called negative split marathon with the first half around goal pace 1:09:30 or a couple of seconds slower , and then hope for a strong last half to come close to 2:19. I think a negative split tactic will be fine at CIM when it`s told to have some hills at first half and then some downhill running at the second . If fresh the last hour I think he can win a lot of seconds at the last half. We will see what happens , but it will be thrilling to follow the race. I have seen there will be live streaming to follow the race .
Phil and JS, are you two going to continue working together post-CIM, or is this a five month experiment? Or does it depend on how the marathon ultimately goes?

I plan to keep working with JS. He isn’t the character he plays on letsrun and I think he has really helped me. I think JS has held up his end of the bargain and helped to dramatically improved my fitness. I feel under different circumstances (more sleep, less work, larger base) I’d have an extremely good shot at running well under 2:20. I still think if the stars align at CIM it’s possible and I’m going to do everything I can over the next 3 weeks to make that happen.
Ultimately CIM is just another race that I hope to do my best at. This thread, the OT qualifying window, and my own mindset have probably added more pressure to the whole thing than is necessary.
I appreciate the interest over the last 5 months. I do every run and workout alone and this has made the whole thing a little less lonely. I genuinely want to pull this off for JS, those interested, and myself.
I’m very interested to see what 2-5 years of this program leads to. Will I be running threshold workouts at 4:45 pace next fall or did I reach my maximum potential a month ago? Only one way to find out. What ever happens I just enjoy being a runner and trying to do my best.
Hey Phil, I wanted to let you know that this has been a pretty awesome thread to follow. Not sure if we ever really crossed paths (I raced against Lang, Lits, Birdie, etc a decent amount) but your DMR anchor leg at Nationals is still one of the coolest races I've seen. I'm pumped to see what you put down at CIM. Hold it down for us washed up DIII guys!

Nice lead off leg. I watch this every morning at 4:30 am to get out the door...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-y5Y-HGShi4Hah I did that for a while as well! We didn't exactly bring it home that day..
Inspiring and interesting thread. Good luck at CIM!

We intend to go on working together as long as Phil want me to coach him.
As I told in the begining Phil is almost an exact copy of myself when I was 27-28 years old. Almost exact same PB:s and so on. An extra plus with Phil is that he is even more talented than myself with his around 50 sec at 400m top speed and my that was around 53-54 sec . Coaching Phil is my way to see how good I could have been if I had known back then what I know today how to reach one`s optimum potential in a smart way on just enough time and relatively low mileage.
Wooow! I just say wooow again! Phil execute the final "test" the Canova ladder this way on treadmill :
6 k 5:10 mile pace , 1% incline
55 sec walk rest
5k 5:10 mile pace , 1% incline
55 sec walk rest
4 k 5:10 mile pace, 1% incline
58 sec walk rest
3 k 5:10 mile pace , 1 % incline
60 sec walk rest
2 k 5:10 mile pace , 1 % incline
60 sec walk rest
1 k 5:10 mile pace ( last 400m at 4:48 pace), 1 % incline
A total of 21 km ( a half marathon) at 5:10 pace! ......Great workout and Phil is ready for the CIM marathon and attacking the sub 2:19 goal. What a workout!! Well done Phil! Good day!
- Just MAGIC! - :)
In the event you don't hit your race goal, you can take solace in knowing you are in the 'running' for world's fastest marathoner w/ size 14 or larger feet.
But in all seriousness, this has been a fantastic thread to follow. Looks like you have life figured out at the moment and have found your 'zen'.
Great workout, and best of luck moving forward!
Too bad Phil doesn't have Strava. Would be truly a legend to follow.

I do have Strava.
https://www.strava.com/athletes/32764878I applied for a seeded entry into CIM this summer and was rejected. I re-applied after my 10 mile race and found out today I got a seeded number! It should make the start a lot less stressful.

Good news Phil! :) Then maybe we can see you at the start line on live stream sending......and I hope for live tracking also. Will be thrilling to follow. Cheers!
After his ultimate test yesterday Phil had a very easy free pace distance day..... some expected fatigue but no soreness. 6.7 miles in 50 min and 7:27 mile pace. Good day! :) Tomorrow the last real long run before CIM, but this time sustained easy pace and no fast finish.
Today Phil ran his last long run more than 90 min before CIM. I decided him to run a sustained long run at easy pace without any fast finish . I don`t want to jeopardize the risk of injuries now so close to the goal CIM at 8th of December. I had him to run 2 hours 40 min sustained easy run to just strengthen his mind to be out more than the goal time 2:19 in CIM.
The easy run went in 2 hours 40 min and 23,83 miles at average 6:42 mile pace , first half 7 mile pace and second half 6:20 pace . Tomorrow he will get his award.....some more sleep and a day off from running))). Cheers! Good day !

I wish I'd had the opportunity to run for a team in HS or College. It looks like so much fun.
