The public supports immigration and support has steadily risen over the years.
The solution to the humanitarian issue is a relatively easy one. You do one of two things:
1. Change asylum laws so you don't have people flooding the border.
2. Increase detention center capacity and support. Increase number of judges. Speed up the process.
Neither will happen. The issue is now the number one political poker chip. Kids have died due to Trump's policies. When the issue pivots away from 'the wall' and 'bad people' to the actual stories of the hardships of 'women and children' *tear* them Trump gets buried as he is painted as a cruel and heartless person.
Expect nothing until the Dems take the presidency. Inaction by the Dems after 2020 will result in defeat in 2024. The border crisis isn't going anywhere.
So my question is....I don't remember this being such a big issue in the early 2000s when crossings were even higher than they are now.
