I'm ALL for revamped healthcare that, somehow, removes worry that a chronic or emergency medical situation might bankrupt my family. Where the left is losing this long-time lefty is with the tortured identity politics stuff. If the party is starting to strain my commitment as a long-term devotee, there is real trouble brewing I would imagine.
The busing thing last night was a perfect example. Busing was a disastrous answer to a real structural problem that has remained many years after busing ended. To say that someone who was against busing was/is a racist is a bridge too far.
I hear way too many identitarian dog whistles and outright prejudicial comments that have become mainstream among those in my party. How often do I have to hear a columnist or commentator dismiss someone as "old white man" where any similar comment about a woman, or anyone else for that matter, would bring howls? The agism, the misandry, the prejudice, the comfort with which the left has entered this territory is becoming repugnant.
Dems need to stick to Big Tent issues. I feel like I'm half in the tent these days. Is there a place for those of us who aren't willing to race in the Woke Olympics? If not, the Dems are a party in just as much trouble as the Repubs. Neither bubble is the place to be.
