This is the matchup I would most like to see right now. I'm giving Burgin the nod, but just barely.

Burgin
Despite what many on this forum think, Jakob will not break 1:47. You need to be able to run 49-48sec for 400m and that is something he has not demonstrated a capacity for at all in his career
I think that only 1:47 is too pessimistic. That is Rupp-like speed decay.
Um, Jakob can close the last 800 in a 15 in 1:48! No way does he go any worse than 1:44.
I recall an earlier thread that said Jakob and his brothers lack speed (this from their father). I don't think Jakob has got below 50 for the quarter and barely under 1.50 for the half - 1.49 I think. I'm picking he's more like a Nick Willis. Maybe a 1.46-47 at best. He won't get near 1.45 and Burgin is going to get below that by 18. Burgin has way more basic speed. It won't be a race.
Neither one of them can beat the clean blacks. This is reality.
Burgin easy

Was that the question?

+1. I think Jakob can do a 1.45 low in a fast field with pacers. Max can do a 1.45 low in a solo run.

It would be an interesting matchup. Who would you pick over 1000m?
Max ran a 3:47 last year on his 16th birthday and hasn't run another 1500 since. Crammy held the UK U17 record for a long time with 3:47. His dad/coach seems to think his long term potential is even greater at 1500 than 800. Hopefully him and Jakob will end up having a good rivalry over the next decade at 1500.
What about Burgin VS Boling over 600m?

There are exactly 0 faster black juniors compared to either of these guys.
max would win this one.

I said juniors. Not low to mid 20s, which is Murphy's age. He's slower than even Murphy.
Barely? Don`t think so! Jacob is not a 800m runner. Max can be one of the best in history.

Throw in Matt Boling and that would be a battle of the GWHS I'd pay to see!
Would be better if they raced a 1k

He is not an 800 runner, but he is a 3:31 1500 runner with a tendency to win things. My proposal was for "right now", not at some speculative future date. Do try to keep up.
I think they are both currently in 1:44 shape.
I think that such a race would begin a rivalry that can clearly extend well into the future via the 1500, if Max's dad's comments hold any weight. Coe v. Ovett 2.0, but hopefully without all the dodging.

I am saying these two are irrelevant. Nonfactors.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
