From everything I've read, it seems that the injury is minor and that his coach/dad is being understandably cautious.
And in fact, Max is in the starting lists for the GB championships in two weeks time.
Looks like he was being held back to make sure he is fit for the possibility of making Doha.

That's good. Oregon Track Club have done the same with Amos.
Wish them both the best of luck. -
Max Burgin down on the starting list for Birmingham!!

Looks like Staines is running too. Looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Yes, so am I. I hadn't heard any results lately from Staines so I was wondering if he was out for the season. I don't think he's listed on the entries for the GB championships. -
Unimpressive distance entries other than the Women's steeplechase. How does this meet keep it's DL status?
-
Seems more impressive than most DLs.

Pardon? List several DLs that have worse distance entries. -

I only care about the 1500/mile as far as "distance" running, with the 800 being a close favorite although that would definitely not be distance running..
Rabat is worse than this in the 1500 and some, like Shanghai didn't even have it. -

So by "seems more impressive than most DLs" you meant "seems more impressive than most DLs in the men's 1500m, and by most I mean a couple". Got it. -

Which meet would you like to replace it with on the DL calender?
Surely it's the timing of the meet, just after stupid competitions like the European team cup.
If the IAAF want a certain number of DL meets, spread out through the season, then perhaps there wouldn't be another place they could hold one on the weekend in the middle of August that would get a) a higher standard of entrants, and b) bigger crowds. -
Very disappointing race by Burgin. 1:47.99 in 10th place.
-
Temporary ban for Burgin lifted, only results in sub-1:48.

Will be interesting to see if this meet is held next year. The announcers talked about work to start soon to expand the stadium for Commonwealth on 3 years. Doubtful work can be completed in a year so does this meet get axed or moved to somewhere else in the UK ? -
Couple of folk called it right in this thread after he ran 1:45, needs to be allowed to develop in piece. This race showed nothing other than no matter how fast kids run there's a world of difference get stuck in a race with experienced adults. I'sure he'll do bigger and better things in future as long as he can be allowed to do so at his own pace.
Oh and the race itself...fairly underwhelming! -
Wow, Staines looked horrible. His form has become horrendous, running backwards and his feet splaying out so much. He also looks a tad heavy - has he been injured? He definitely needs to move up to the 1500m permanently. His every moves backwards. I'm sure they'll fix this after seeing the footage from today.

Both the American based Brits Staines and Kerr have disappointed on their return home.
I assume Staines has been injured because he seems to have ran only once since May (before this race).
Odd that several young Kenyan 800m runners have slumped this season, including Kipketer, Saurani, and Korir.
Shame that Rudisha got injured again, otherwise he would have had a good shot at making the team even half-fit. -
None of you here have ever stepped on a track.
Injuries don't affect performances. You're either healthy or you isn't.
When Amos comes back, he'll run 1:41 again.
Max Burgin out for 3 weeks? So what? Thomas Staines out for 2 months? Stop making excuses.
Big Mac has been out for 2 years and he'll be running 1:43/3:29 by Doha. -

Hi Coevett!
From the other thread:

You're surely not being sarcastic?
Shows what potential Max has if you think a 17 year old making his senior debut (and in a DL race) after missing several weeks with injury and taking the scalp of somebody that was supposed to be 'the next Rudisha' is a disappointment...well...
And what the hell is the problem with Kenyan 800m running right now? All of them going backwards including their young stars..hmmm... thank heavens for Rotich (and his manager's pi$$ pot).
Only 5 lies. Not bad!!!
You surely can find excuses when one of your guys loses.
And a scalp? Deng has done nothing in ages.
And you are still pushing your lie about Rotich... What a sad man you are. -
Hi Casual Observski!! Is it still summer in Russia? Hope you are doing well.
I don't have to make any excuses for 17 year olds like Max or 18 year olds like Jakob.
To me it looked like he was a bit short of confidence and fitness. He seemed unable or unwilling to go with the other runners in the first lap, which for somebody who can front run 1:45 and ran a 47 second relay leg last year at 16, he should be able to if 100% in a strung out 50.5 opening lap.
However, he was actually closing or matching the rest over the last 100m, and of course caught Deng who must have been about 30m ahead of him for most of the race.
There is some truth to what the other poster said regarding letting Max just take his time in his career, but there was no harm in putting him in this race (or the GB championships next week), especially after the disappointment of missing out on the European junior championships.
It's a big difference being used to front running entire races to chasing everybody else all of a sudden.
I was honestly just happy to see him running. I feared he'd miss the rest of the season. I'm sure he's going to make the final in the GB championships and he'll run better and with more confidence there.
