From the wastefulness of the kcups to the sludge left behind from drip coffee that can clog your pipes...why isn’t the addiction to caffeine seen as filthy as smoking?

Because taking a dump is dirtier.
Not as bad as the crack I smoke with my morning cup of coffee.

Because drinking coffee is not as clearly bad (in regards to health) for you as smoking, maybe? Smoking clearly contributes to lung cancer, bladder cancer, cervical cancer, head & neck cancer, and COPD. The data regarding the health effects of coffee are mixed—some say it’s good for you in moderation, others studies show some ill effects from consuming coffee.
better marketing.
also it doesn't kill you or harm those around you.
Also, my cup of coffee isn't transmitting known carcinogens or other harmful substances to the people in my immediate vicinity.
Most people when they are finished drinking coffee rinse out their mug or put their cups in the trash. Almost every cigarette smoker when finished smoking flick the cigarette out the window of car or toss it on the ground. Really disgusting.
Plus I don’t think someone drinking a cup of coffee bothers nearby people like someone smoking a cigarette.

Smoking cigs is easily the most damaging chosen habit (aside from other hard substances) one can pick up. Coffee to an extent is a healthy habit. If you have any kind of heart sensitivity to caffeine, aire with caution, but if your heart is in good shape, and the coffee is clean. Enjoy.
Now, some of those crazy sugar filled drinks at starbucks, that's not even coffee.

What is drip coffee? Is clogging your pipes a euphemism? I thought coffee did the opposite to clogging.
Smoking drastically reduces life expectancy. That's why life insurance premiums and annuity rates are so different for smokers. I don't think coffee kills many people.

I agree that K cups are stupid. They are wasteful and the coffee is terrible. But there are a lot of other methods for making coffee.
I use an aeropress when I want one cup or a French press when I want to make multiple cups at one time. When I'm done brewing, I toss the spent grounds into the municipal compost or I set them aside for my wife to throw around the plants outside (coffee grounds are apparently good for some types of plants). None of this strikes me as particularly filthy.

For the life of me I don't understand why people say this about K cups. Look in your grocery store. Just about everything has more packaging than k-cups. In any meeting, there are lots of people sitting around with Starbucks or other disposable coffee cups that are many times the size of k-cups.
I teach solid waste, have taken student and industry groups to landfills many times, and have never seen a k-cup at a landfill. They're there of course, but they're a negligible, unnoticeable fraction of the total waste stream.
The ranting about the wastefulness of k-cups just baffles me.
Coffee in the morning.
5 minutes later...5 pounds lighter

Troll job 2/10
It’s an acceptable vice. Although many people would be better off without it or at least being more conservative with their intake levels. Caffeine acts differently in everyone’s body and for some it can cause anxiety for example.
Caffeine is the most important chemical in the world. Without it, civilization falls.

The part about the coffee being terrible is really enough for me to not want to use them.
Wastefulness isn't just a matter of solid waste. Energy goes into producing something that is only going to be used once and shipping something that is way bulkier than it needs to be. Is this the end of the world? Of course not. It's pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. But why be wasteful for something that is an inferior product to begin with?
Both coffee and hot chocolate have been vilified in the past:
"Women used subtle arguments against coffeehouse frequenting, as well as coffee consumption, outlined in 'The Women's Petition Against Coffee.' ] They protested against the consumption of coffee arguing that it made men sterile and impotent and stated that it contributed to the nation's failing birth rate.
"According to the petition, coffee made men 'as unfruitful as the sandy deserts, from where that unhappy berry is said to be brought.'"
"London's first chocolate house opened in 1657. English cafe society believed the drink to be a cure-all medicine capable of treating tuberculosis. Initially flavored with coffee, wine and pepper, hot chocolate finally achieved liftoff in the early 1700s when English and Dutch impresarios hit on the idea of adding milk and sugar." On the other hand: "[C]chocolate was an alien, suspect substance drink associated with popery and idleness.'”
Caffeine fulls the capitalists spirit. How else am I going to sell you vile and filth!?

The whole point of K-Cups is convenience, you cannot argue they are inferior in that regard.
