Ok, so I am a little confused on what Daniels means by this. The Run Smart Project posted a video on youtube where Daniels says that he has difficulty justifying the physiological benefits of training at 5k race pace. He says that if you want to train V02Max then you have to run faster. That makes sense, right? If your V02Max is the pace that you could run for 11 minutes than 5k pace would not help. But then I go to his online calculator put in my 5k time and it says that my Interval pace is essentially my 5k pace.
On the calculator, it says the purpose of an interval is:
"Stress your aerobic power (VO2max). It takes about two minutes for you to gear up to functioning at VO2max so the ideal duration of an "Interval" is 3-5 minutes each. The reason not to go past 5-minutes is to prevent anaerobic involvement, which can result in blood-lactate build-up."
So this sounds like he is suggesting that it does improve V02Max. But even if it doesn't improve V02Max why would he suggest a pace that is essentially 5k pace but then says in a video that he doesn't understand the purpose of it.
