Honestly, I find vacations to be one of the best things ever. The key for me is to avoid airplanes and involve as few people as possible. Co-planning a vacation is hell. Coordinating travel plans so you can meet up with Great Auntie Estah for brunch sucks. Sitting on a patio watching the ocean with a drink and fvck all to do........is great.
Just spent a week on the Oregon Coast on a solo vacation and it was amazing. Full ocean view from the hotel window, could feel the breeze and hear the ocean sounds drift in through open window. Bought a couple dozen oysters, some smoked salmon and a bottle of good scotch and watched the waves roll in while getting in some reading and writing . Felt like bliss.
Even though I live in a scenic area, there' something about being away from home that allows you to relax in a different way. At home I always feel a little anxious that I should be getting something done, but on vacation, I fully embrace the idea that my only mission for the day is to find good food and drink and scenery.
