Allie O speaks out against ESPN's commentating

But you didn't say ESPN. You said "Lets", and "lets" is a contraction (with an omitted apostrophe) for "let us". That implies that we the posters should be focused on her three titles instead of her weight and appearance. But obviously, by starting a thread on ESPN's commentary about Allie O's weight and appearance, you started a whole stream of comments that got posters to focus on her weight and appearance instead of those three titles. So next time, start a thread about those three titles in order to achieve your stated goal.

(Plus, ESPN did state numerous times that this was her third straight win, had graphics about it, etc. They even focused more on her in the 5k while not even mentioning Dani Jones, the 2018 CC champ and favorite, until the last lap).

The point of the thread is to bring to light Allie's comments on ESPN's commentary. The thread was not started to talk about her success, rather I was suggesting they should have focused on it more in the race. I'm saying that I agree with Allie that what was said about her height and weight, as well looking like she still plays with barbies, is not what they should talk about during the broadcast. Again, the focus of this thread is on the broadcast discussing this things.

Why are you folks even watching T&F on ESPN (or NBC)? Just wait a day or so and YouTube will have the European coverage up - - - no commercials; good commentating; no breakaways from the distance races . . . . . There's really no reason to watch on ESPN unless you're just lazy or stupid.

AllieO is such a tough runner - and now we know she is also a tough person.

I'm sure it wasn't her intention, but she probably just doubled her signing bonus/contract. I can already imagine the Nike and/or adidas ads featuring her where she argues to "just focus on performance."

Wish we could have Ryan Fenton, Chris Chavez, Jon Gault, or Gordon Mack and Lincoln Shyrack do the commentating. People who have followed the sport for years and know everything about it. ESPN personalities need to focus on being authoritative sports commentators, not aspiring stand up comedians or sad old farts trying to be hip.

Espn announcers never mentioned her height and weight. Those comments were made by the stadium commentators. The 2018 comments regarding Barbies was made by Dwight Stones. So Ms. Ostrander was incorrect in attributing the height and weight comments to ESPN.

She also states that 40 percent of the athletes are female and they only receive 4% of the media coverage. Well, someone should explain to Ms. Ostrander that coverage is based on level of interest. There were more players than fans at the recent U.S. Open women's golf championship. The ratings were lower than a middle of the night "I love Lucy" rerun. I agree that the 2018 comments were not appropriate. Why she waited a year to complain is puzzling.

I guess the good news is that Allie is cherubic and young-looking and not gaunt, which means she's obviously not anorexic. So let's be happy.
