remember the picture on Track and Field News? - back then Rudy was as big or bigger deal than AlSal. Chapa was a couple months younger than Hunter is now.
nevertheless, good run for Hunter and he deserves kudos for that!
Yes, I still have that issue (Rudy & Al cover)!!
Rudy was bigger... First to set an AR and NCAA title!!
Hunters in good company ;-)

Yeah, what a loser Hunter is!! In his LOOOOOOOONG and SHAMEFUL running career, this 21 year old has NEVER made a US team for the Worlds or the Olympics. Let's see now...with a birthday of Sept. 5, 1997...
OLYMPICS:
Rio, 2016: Shamefully, he didn't even run in the Oly Trials as an 18 year old, so he couldn't qualify for the Olympics.
London, 2012: Shamefully, he didn't even run in the Oly Trials as a 14 year old, so he couldn't qualify for the Olympics.
Beijing, 2008: Shamefully, he didn't even run in the Oly Trials as a 10 year old, so he couldn't qualify for the Olympics.
INDOOR WORLDS, TRACK:
Birmingham, 2018: Shamefully, as a 20 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Portland, 2016: Shamefully, as a 18 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Sopot, 2014: Shamefully, as a 16 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Istanbul, 2012: Shamefully, as a 14 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
OUTDOOR WORLDS, TRACK:
London, 2017: Shamefully, as a 19 year old, he only finished 11th in the 1500 at the US Championships, so he didn't qualify for Worlds.
Beijing, 2015: Shamefully, as a 17 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Moscow, 2013: Shamefully, as a 15 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Daegu, 2011: Shamefully, as a 13 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
WORLD CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Aarhus, 2019: Shamefully, as a 21 year old, he only finished 9th at the US Championships, so he didn't qualify for Worlds.
Kampala, 2017: Shamefully, as a 19 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Guiyang, 2015: Shamefully, as a 17 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Bydgoszcz, 2013: Shamefully, as a 15 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Punta Umbria, 2011: Shamefully, as a 13 year old, he didn't even run in the US Championships, so he couldn't qualify for Worlds.
Did I get those ages and dates correct? It would be shameful if I didn't.

Better than Rupp was as a high schooler, and could smoke a 21 year old Rupp in anything under a 10k. Plus he’s not fuelled by Alberto’s Saladbar juice like Rupp is. Also I’d say that Noah Lyles is the Lebron James of our sport, Hunter’s more of a Kobe.
No, Hunter's far more of a Howard or a Melo.
Hunter has never made a US team for World's or Olys, he's not even an NBA All Star equivalent. Maybe he's the high school phenom drafted in the first round who gets on the Rising Stars roster, at best this far. He's Lonzo Ball.
Lonzo Ball? Throw some respect on the Footlocker and sub 4 mile indoors high school runner, who also won a US national title just a couple of months ago.....from the slow heat like a fuccing boss.
Man, the Drew Hunter haters are back and in greater numbers too (obi wan kenobi voice)
That win came over a bunch of stiffs in a nothing, non-team qualifying meet. Probably a step below NCAA Indoors. He's a Big Baller.
Okay, how long has he been pro? And what's his best finish at USA Outdoors, the big boy meet? Why go pro if you aren't believing you should be on the bottom step of the podium, at the very least? No more excuses about his age, he was an adult when he signed with Adidas and started a pro career.

Looks like another of the peabrains on the planet thinks that anyone who isn't in the "I hate the Tinmen" rut has to be one of the Tinmen.
Tinman Elite detector: "Drew Hunter sucks because he hasn't run a sub-7:30 3k and hasn't gone to the Olympics."
Reply: "He's only 21 and on an impressive path, which maybe one day will put him into the Olympics."
Tinman Elite detector: "A-ha!! You're Drew Hunter! Or one of his cronies on that team!"
Reply: "I wouldn't brag about your mental prowess, if I were you."

Yawn. If a tinman wins a WC, then I'll be interested. Until then I'll stick to my tried and true training methods. I really wish they'd stop shoving this stuff down our throats.
No one is shoving this down your throat, so you can calm down a bit there. Three deep breaths and you'll be okay. I promise.
I'm not a tinman, too old, but did win a master's WC using the general principles of the training. Won't bore you with detail, cause I'm sure I'm a nobody to and @stud like you. But it worked for me.
Probably because financially it made sense. I'm sure he's getting more value (monetarily) competing as a professional than running in college. So no one should accept a paycheck if they don't make a WC team? lol. It was Adidas that offered to pay him. Your problem is with them and not with Drew. He cashed in for his success in HS. He's improving every year. He'd have the top times in a number of different events if he was in college right now. I really don't get what your problem with him being professional is. There are a lot of runners with slower PRs than him that are professionals. Why does finishing college make it okay for them to take a paycheck if they are not in contention for a WC team?

If Hunter is Pre than Henrik can be Viren.
Take your strawman and suck it. You don't want to or fundamentally can't understand the point. He gets this level of expectation and scrutiny and criticism because he took the money as a pro and in part because fanboys hype him with nonsense like "the next Pre" (except he's no front-runner). No more "he's only 21" silliness, when you're a pro you have to produce and he's been pro for over two years. Alan Webb rightly got similar treatment on here, but you're probably too young to remember any of that.
I'll say it again, Lonzo Ball.
I think Hunter will be great. I dont disagree that it would be nice if he was winning now though.

I honestly think so, too. Maybe I shouldn't be so reactive to people who want to crown him prematurely. Regardless, his presence is infusing the sport with some excitement that wouldn't exist in his absence. Let there be no doubt, I'll be rooting for him to make it to Doha.

He wasn't supposed to make the world team right out of highschool though. He was kind of in that gray area. He did run 3:35 7:30 and 13:20 in his third year out of his. That's pretty darn good. Those times would easily put him at the top of the NCAA. I can see the lonzo ball comparison I prefer trae young though
So, I’m 32. I remember what happened to Webb. Webb was running slower initially and took a couple years to get where he did. He also went to college for a year then went back to his hs coach. There is a lot more to be critical of Webb than hunter. Drew is improving every year. I don’t think you know what a straw man argument is. You specifically asked why go pro if you don’t think you can be at the podium at nationals. I said because adidas offered him money and pointed out there are other professionals that have slower PRs then him that are older. I really don’t understand why you think only the top contenders should be allowed to go professional.
Yep, much younger that even Webb. Don't get it twisted, I definitely understand and stated my intention clearly.
