Looks pretty skitz.

How much money was wasted on this rebranding rather than put into purses for events/athletes?
Is there a list of rebrands like this actually working? Always feels like busy work for some useless people. I like the new name better but it is a meaningless change
This would be a better logo. Sort of like the Big 10:

I know it's easy to instinctively be negative. Personally, I'll admit when I first saw their still logo, I was less than a fan, but now that I've seen their tweet, and gotten to see it sort of dynamically in action, I like it a lot more.
https://twitter.com/iaaforg/status/1137700396393259008I do think the still logo should have have a reference to a track in it - not above it. Like I'd like to see the words "World Athletics" next to track. I'm not good at photoshop but the image below gives you my idea.

I agree with most. Nothing wrong with the new name or logo. But the video looks more like a business school marketing exercise than a real life announcement to get people excited about track.

The new logo looks like a baseball diamond
It is also the sun setting behind MOUNTAINS.
Clearly they are gunning for that sweet sweet trail ultra ca$h.
Looks like another "lipstick on a pig" moment brought to you by the "Powers That Be"
Changing the name of the Titanic to Doomed.
Looks like a telecom start up. I shudder to think of the millions spent on marketing consultants and ad firms to come up with this.
I also think that hanging your hat on the brand "Athletics" is a mistake. For most people, "athletics" is ambiguous and could mean just about any sport. Everyone knows what track and field is and no one would be confused if the marathon, etc. were included in track and field. So, just call it World Track and Field.
Ok. I see the problem now.
DGAF. Crap organization, makes FIFA and NFL look caring and effective, only IOC is worse.

Trumps hair. Making Athletics Great Again.
What difference does it make? World Athletics is just another word for Graft & Corruption.
Every organization of consequence in the history of civilization contains some degree of Graft & Corruption.

My understanding is that is a US only issue where the rest of the world calls track athletics.

Yes, they really should have replaced all their leaders after the corruption scandal instead of promoting the vice president to president, and then start pointless "rebranding".
This is a fabulous opportunity for the IAAF to seize this opportunity and under strong leadership move forward from this, but there is an enormous amount of work to do. I can't think of anyone better than Lord Coe to lead that.

I like how they have placed Mountain Running at the center of the logo. Athletes like Kilian Jornet and Jim Walmsley have broader appeal than the Kipchoges of the world.
This is the future based on data.
What data?
How many people actually run trail and mountain races compared to big city marathons, big fun runs, large ultra field (eg Comrades) and even Park run?
As the guy running the world masters athletics website this has given us a great number of extra hits :)
and of course brings both kinda in line with each other more
Honestly what that shape above the words is meant to be I have no idea. I wouldn't even have thought of the lines signifying a track.
You look at the TourDeFrance logo or Wimbledon and you know what they are. (TdF logo is a masterpiece with the 'hidden cyclist in it).
But this World Athletics shape just reminds me of Madonna's pointy bra in her 1990 Vogue phase.

I know Madonna is terrible
Now WADA can keep is acronym and become the World Athletics Doping Association.
Good one! The sad part is that these functionaries really talk like that, covering up for "same old, same old". The new name for this corrupt organization fits nicely into this scheme.

The logo should have 2 parts. Seb Coe's holding a sword up and a lightning bolt onto the tip of his sword. The part underneath should have an image of Bekele running. My dream is to someday be in charge of the IAAF.
