Taylor Werner - INCREDIBLE Double!!!

Werner has improved tremendously since last school year. She's probably going to be the projected to get 2nd at NCAA XC (behind Kelati) in the fall. Has their been an article or interview discussing what changes in training, mileage, etc. that caused her to improve so much the last year?

Why do you think there needs to be changes to improve? Persistence and focus are the two most important attributes to success in this sport. She seems to be level-headed and cognizant of where she is and where she's headed.

Agreed - incredible performance from Taylor! I doubt Bucknam was expecting her to notch 12 points with that double :)

Definitely looking forward to see how Taylor and the rest of team does in XC this Fall. If she stays good, we should not be surprised to see her right there with Kelati and Ostrander next year. I think Monson, Kurgat and Rohrer all have one more XC season of eligibility as well?

Isn't Bucknam the men's coach? I thought Lance Harter coaches her.

Lance Harter is the women's coach and coaches her directly. She got 13 points, the LetsRun article was wrong. Look for the Razorbacks to possibly contend for the team title this XC season.

To be honest, I never expected her to be doing so well in College. After all, she was running 75+ miles per week in HS and listening to all them LRC pundits that mileage should have kicked all the running outta her. What goes?

She really saved Arkansas. I don't know if she scored the most total points for her team, but she was definitely the MVP. She placed higher than everyone in the country expected her to. She handled the 10k/5k double better than Weini Kelati. Doubling back like that in insane heat is heroic.

Look out for this girl to be a superstar. Who knows how talented she is but she's tough as hell and that is more important.

She ran 75+ mpw in HS? Do you have a source for that?

yep! One day people will realize that mileage is not a bad thing as long as you can handle it.

She was not wearing makeup and had not tatoos, very clean and natural.

Werner is a total stud. She did an amazing job of hanging tough and putting herself on the line for her team. What a class act. The LRC interview with her where she watched the 4X400 was priceless.

She was in a car accident as a sophomore that really limited her training and left her battling a series of back injuries. This was her longest uninterrupted block in training in awhile and it paid off.

She's done several interviews that she substantially cut her mileage her freshman year of college. She was overtraining and was getting hurt by the end of track season most years in hs. They dropped her mileage and slowed down recovery days to get her healthy and then have built it back up again over several years. A few other athletes might have scored more points, but none were more clutch than Taylor's points. MVP of NCAAs!!
